Just purchased truck with 174K, did't hear when I test drove it, now when it shifts between almost any gear or condition there a low level resontate growl intermittant. Even backing up slowly you'll hear it. Almost as if the the RPM's are to low for the shift Found the aluminum heat shild that was loose and secured it no change. Only heat it when it's going through the gears never at highway cruising speed. Any info greatly appreciated. Also brand new brakes on truck from what I've read the spongy feel is normal

    Thanks,
    Mark

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.
Early universal joint wear can sound or more accurate feel like that. Try turning your drive shaft by hand. If it has any "play" you found your relatively inexpensive repair.

    Good luck
