When they said they have an 1800 HP 3rz....

It got me excited... Probably the main reason I went with LC !

Blows my mind how fast an efr turbo spools up.

But that cost. I'm thinking a gtx3071 or the efr 7064 for my truck.

Im going with the twin scroll too, for better mid range boost response. I was gonna go with the 7064 but im shooting for much higher HP numbers now. I could probably go twin GTX for the price of one EFR haha

My BW 9180, with a 1.04 A/R T4 inlet (despite twin scroll setup), spool through the boost threshold sooner than the SMALLER Precision Turbo 6266. Which is journal bearing, .86 A/R T4 tangential inlet. By a measure of 500-800 RPMs. 1000hp turbo versus a 700

excuse me if this is a dumb question but if you put a turbo in and are essentially getting more HP to the wheels does this help with being under geared? i see a lot of built up rigs have 410s and thats what our trucks come with stock. instead of spending money on gears i think a turbo would be more fun.

It does but you should never skimp on proper gears for your tire size.

Most tacoma guys are driving a V6 and if i remember correctly, the V6 uses a 3.73 and benefit from moving to a 4.11 setup to increase torque. That would lend us to go up to a 4.30ish ratio to get the truck back in the stock powerband.

Now, I want to be the voice of reason for you. The price of the gears and installation of the gears(if you don't install them yourself) will cost just as much as a single, new, turbocharger. After the turbo, you need exhaust manifold, injectors, blow off valve, wastegate, 1:1 rising rate fuel pressure regulator and much more.

I am well into $10,000 worth of parts specific to the turbo build. That does include a $2,000 spare motor too though.

I would say regear to something in the 4.30s, but not further than 4.50s. It will be worth it far sooner than a turbo kit would.

Good luck with your decision, and feel free to ask anything else you may think of

Holy crap man i had no idea u had that much cash dropped in ur setup. Im sitting at just under $3500 on mine for the 4.0 but i did everything myself so i have $0 in labor. Ur also gonna be able to run like 3x the boost i am i guess since ur on a load of forged internals. But i would think stock internals would handle enough to well surpass the next step in a regear for not much more than a regear front and rear if you can fab everything yourself. Heck on a 4cyl you could mostly get a manifold for about the same or less than i have on headers and all my pipe for crossover and up pipe. Then all u would have to worry with is the down pipe

I very much could have went cheaper haha

I decided very quickly, as I discovered the true strength potential of the block, that I could push it to the moon with no worries. So I invested into the idea of 1000hp+ very quickly. I grabbed a couple spare heads that I have been playing around with porting and polishing to get me some sweet CFMs too. Those and the tooling to achieve what I want are included in the total as well.

I am sure the total will go over 20k once I get into axle upgrade and trans bulletproofing. But for the last ten years that I have had this truck for, I have dreamed of doing exactly this. Now I can afford it, and have gotten to a place mechanically and mentally that I'm ready for some sweet, sweet boost!

    :burnrubber:

Edit: I will be doing most of the labor as well, but I cannot pass up an opportunity to be part of research and development for LCEngineering either..

Gears are worth it even with boost. If you add weight and large tires gears help a lot. Helps tighten your gear ratio between shifts. Plus you'll never be under 3k rpms.

Thats an excellent point that I had honestly not considered yet. Since the redline will probably be extended up towords 9-10k a higher ratio would be beneficial

I already want a higher rpm. 7k red line would be sweet.
