Have never had this problem before. Thought it was the tires but I bought new ones today and the vibration is still there. It is not rpm dependent because Indont feel any vibration in low gears when I rev it up and accelerate. After accelerating to greater than 20mph it starts to shake. Can feel it in the pedal, under my butt, the steering wheel to a lesser degree, above 75 the mirror shakes and I can't make out the cars behind me. The vibration stops when I take my foot off of the gas or in neutral. Any suggestions or ideas about what may be causing this is appreciated.

So the shakes are worse when you're giving the truck gas? My guess is an out of balance drive shaft, or something driveshaft related

U Joints and /or Carrier bearing. Better get them all replaced before you sling that mother out at highway speeds.

Thanks for the replies. Would you suggest a transmission shop or dealership?

I'd try and find a driveline shop near you. They'd take good care of you.

Ditto for the dedicated drive line shop.

Ok. I took it to a local mechanic and he replaced the front and back u joints. Now it rides smooth up until 50 mph but when I exceed 50 mph it will vibrate when I take my foot off the gas or when it is in neutral. Not as badly as before and more in the steering wheel but definitely noticeable. Any thoughts on this new symptom are appreciated. Thanks.

You need too take it too a DRIVELINE shop not just any mechanic,a driveline shop will replace the carrier bearing and also balance the shaft.

I took it into a local dealership and they said the drive shaft needs to be replaced. $873, does this sound reasonable?

Did they say why? Was the run out out of tolerance? You can get a custom Tom Woods shaft for $450 so I would say it's not a good deal

Not a good deal at all. You probably only need a new universal joint in the middle where your crappy mechanic failed to replace it. Never replace only one or two out of three universal joints. Do all at the same time.

Do what Lynlan said and take it to a driveline shop, not the dealer. Not a regular mechanic. They'll get you squared away. $873 for a driveshaft is a lot.

Look in the mail. I replaced a u joint two years ago and last week received a letter from Toyota, they are replacing bad u joints and center bearing if defective for free. They will also reimburse previous repair costs.

I had my frame coated 2 -3 yeas ago and it just failed inspection last week. New one on order.
