So Im looking on any advice I could get with this issue I'm having the truck has been running fine up until 2-3weeks ago when I killed my baterie and when I started it again the truck would idle at 400 rpm and shake like it was gonna stall out. No misfires though. Now after putting a brand new baterie in because I needed one anyways I was hoping this would clear it up but it's gotten worst. The truck keeps firing up if it's been sitting but runs at 400 rpm and as soon as I bring it over 2000 rpm just completely cuts out and won't start again for 20 minutes or so. When the truck cuts out I get 2 po335 and a po340 come up. I am wondering if anyone had seen this issue and could point me in a direction on things to check. Those codes cam sensor and crank sensor are telling me the timing is going off but it seems find if it's running and I hold it at certain rmps until it shut it self off.

Yeah see this happened before and it just went away but now my truck literaly won't run anymore. Seems like fuel or spark just cuts out and the truck dies if I try to drive. I was convinced my fuel pump went bad but after seeing the codes I don't see how the fuel pump would trigger both those codes and nothing else. You would think it would run lean and maybe give me o2 sensor codes but the only ones that come up are to do with timing so I am confused. It seems like I'm the first one to ever have this issue with a tacoma because no one has ever eard of this and I can't find any one that has had and solved this... it's pretty frustrating and after spending 1500 $ on it last week and maxing out my visa I really don't wanna start throwing parts at it. Also if I cleat my codes they will not come up again until the truck blacks out again.

P0335 Trouble Areas: Crankshaft position sensor.

    • Open or short in Crank Position Sensor circuit
    • Crank Position Sensor
    • Sensor plate (Crank Position Sensor plate)
    • ECM

If there is no signal from the CKP sensor despite the engine revolving, the ECM interprets this as a
    malfunction of the sensor.

If the malfunction is not repaired successfully, a DTC is set 10 seconds after the engine is next started.

P0340 Trouble Areas: Cam shaft position sensor.

    • Open or short in VVT sensor circuit
    • VVT sensor
    • Camshaft timing pulley
    • Jumped tooth on timing chain
    • ECM

If no signal is transmitted by the VVT sensor despite the engine revolving, or the rotations of the camshaft
and the crankshaft are not synchronized
, the ECM interprets this as a malfunction of the sensor
    .

There is no good way to determine which sensor has an issue without an Oscilloscope.

If i were forced to guess I would pick the Crank shaft sensor or wiring harness for the sensor as per the description:

    Damn..I'm at a loss.

    Here's another link with similar codes thrown for a 2000...but that's a 3.4L engine.
