Thanks for any help ahead of time. Took my work truck to the carwash today, and while the under carriage was getting sprayed, the check engine light came on. It still ran fine for a couple more hours today. When I got home I disconnected the neg. side of the battery for a while, to see if it reset. The first time I went to start it again, it will not idle anymore. I ran it around, and it runs fine, as long as I keep the rpm's around 600-700 with the pedal, you would never know anything is wrong. But, take your foot off the pedal and it drops down to 100-200 and almost dies. I gave up and parked it before something expensive breaks, anybody else ever have this happen ? Thank you.

it has to relearn from you disconnecting the battery.
start the truck and turn on the ac that will help relearn the idle
let it idle with the air on for like 5 and then turn off the air and it should be fine

I tried that, it idles a little higher with the AC on, and I ran it for 5 minutes, but when you let your foot off the gas to idle it drops to 250 rpms and shakes like hell still, turn the ac off and it drops to 100-200 and almost dies out. Time to get a code reader I guess, thanks.

Gonna watch this thread. I take my truck through a touchless wash once in a while just for the undercarriage wash.

have you ever cleaned your throttle body? Pull your intake tube off the throttle body and see what it looks like. Carbon deposits build up around the butterfly door and wont allow it to close all the way and you get a big vacuum leak. Its pretty common on higher mileage vehicles and easy to clean

Checked it out and it was clean with no codes, and nothing looked bad. I drove it about 15 miles, and tried to let it idle with the AC on , it started to get better, but sure didn't sound good at first, I thought it was coming apart........I just kept letting it idle ,and then drove another 15 miles back home. On the return trip it started acting much better, and is running just like before now . I guess you do have to let it relearn, like BlackTaco suggested, but I think mine must be one destined for the "Short Bus". Thanks for all the help.

Too many to fit here now!
My 4 cylinder automatic does the same thing when you unhook the battery. The computer gets wiped out when it happens. Takes it a while to reset
