Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a 4runner and a Taco but my 4runner speakers were garbage so I got a replacement set of component speakers for front and back. I'm ok-ish at this stuff but not an expert by any means.

I notice there is no tweeter in the back so I am wondering if the rear speakers are supposed to be full range or are intentionally woofers only.

I understand the front components are in parallel, but I don't know if high signal even is getting sent to the back to begin with.

If they are supposed to be full range or coax I am wondering if it's ok to just put a woofer from a t/w pair in the back or would that sound terrible?

I am also wondering if there is any realistic location to place the tweeters, of if this is even recommended or feasible in the rear.

Appreciate any help you can give.

Typically we all put a set of coax speakers in the back and components only in the front because that’s what matches the factory mounting locations.

You can put components in the rear but you will have to custom mount the tweeters. There’s probably plenty of space behind the door panel for a tweeter in the rear doors somewhere but you will have to punch your own hole and mount them directly on the door panel. I’ve had good luck using an electrical conduit knock-out set to make holes for tweeters as long as the plastic is not hard and brittle.

I wouldn’t personally put components in the rear though. If I were you I would return the second set of components and get a matching set of coaxials.

Just mounting the woofers might give you a lot of mid bass build up in the cabin that your front tweeters can’t keep up with, and it definitely won’t sound crystal to any rear passengers because all they will get is off axis highs.

That is exactly what I thought, thank you. Very much appreciated.

One more Question: The tweeter has 4 lines into it, and I understand they are running in parallel, the red/white are +/- input, the blue green, come back and go to the woofer.

Once I cut the harness, I understand I only need to use the white/red into the crossover and then wire the others to the crossover... do I need to do anything with the blue/green? I assume they are just dead wires at that point and can be ignored or removed.
