I have a 2007 Access cab with AT and 4 cylinder that has a leaking rear main seal with 352K on it. Since the transmission is coming out to do the seal I've decided to proactively replace the transmission with a low mileage used one. In looking at options I've found Ebay sellers claiming compatibility from 2005-2015 but the newer units are 6 speed vs the 4 speed or 5 speed(sorry I dont know which I have) that is in mine. Can anyone point me to a resource for what transmissions will go in my truck without modification or what would be needed if I bought the 6 speed? I've searched around but haven't found anything definitive. Thank you.

Ok so no 6 speed. Will any of the 2005-2012 work? Thats what my reading tells me but I would like to confirm in some way before placing my order. Thanks for the help.

I can't because there may have been software changes year to year all though they all may have been 5 spds. Most reputable scrap yards do have fitment parts books that tell them what will or will not work.

Thanks for the help. Digging around on Tacoma World led me to toyodiy.com. Very useful. After putting in my VIN and drilling down into the transmission section I end up with this part number :
    35000 TRANSMISSION ASSY, AUTOMATIC
    35000-35A20 A340E 1 $5,603.81

Can anyone explain the breakdown on the part number? The A340E I think is the bell housing.

I just found a transmission with 16K on it and the donor VIN in the listing. I used the donor VIN on toyodiy to drill down to the transmission that came with the 2006 truck it was from and the part number was a complete match so I bought it.

Just as a followup. Even though the part # matched the part did not fit. One transmission had a hanger to bolt it to the underside of the tunnel and the other did not.
