I had a 2007 Frontier that I gave to my son and bought a 2024 Tacoma. I live at high altitude and liked the Turbo. But my Frontier had several features that the Tacoma does not have.
    • Frontier had tons more storage space in the front area. 2 very usable glove compartments and useable storage through out the front area that the Tacoma just does not have.
    • With the tailgate down the Frontier had the end of the bumper where you could easily step into the pickup bed. No such thing on the Tacoma.
    • Frontier had more back seat leg room (a lot more) and when you fold up the seat it snapped into an upright locked position. The Tacoma has a leather strap and very old fashion snap. With the seat up the frontier had a usable area. The frontier holds more in the storage below the seats but it is a very unusable area with the seats up.
    • The bed of the Frontier was a lot more rugged. Rails around the bed use heavy duty adjustable anchors, where the Tacoma are plastic.
    • I could put 19 gallons of gas in my Frontier, 14 in the Tacoma.
    • They both get about 22 mpg.
    • I bought my Tacoma before any Tariffs but it is made in Mexico and the Frontier is made in Tennessee.

Are you just venting or are you looking for assistance?

Bed steps are a lot better than bumper-end cutouts IMHO. OEM is a bit spendy, good aftermarket options from Amazon have been posted in the group

Someone mentioned using the seat belt to hold the rear seat folded up instead of the snap, maybe try that.

My 2017 Tacoma's bed / rails / adjustable cleats have seen lots of use in the nearly nine years I've had it and they've held up perfectly. Current models are the same, so I'd say you'll find they're much more rugged than you perceive.

Give the Tacoma to your son and drive the Frontier.

You do know almost everything you listed could have been tested prior to buying the Tacoma...but what is more shocking is that you did not buy a 2024 Frontier. Maybe we should dive into why you bought the Tacoma over a new Frontier?????

My post was not intended to tear down the Tacoma but point out improvements that could be made. As stated in my post I bought the Tacoma because of the turbo engine. With my non turbo Frontier I lost 50 HP because of the elevation of my home. My other car is an EV and losses zero HP. The 2024 Frontier is not much different than the 2007. Yes, my Tacoma has a lot more conveniences in electronics, but I paid dearly for them. As stated I bought mine before tariffs, but as tariffs kick in the Tacoma will be hit worse than the Frontier. Sorry to hurt peoples feelings but just posting fact. Fact like there is a lot more legroom in the back of the Frontier. Maybe some designer will look at that. One reply was helpful about the retractable step for the bed and I am looking into that. All of the other replies were just from people that I obviously hurt their feelings.

You have to wonder why Toyota didn't try to make more interior space in the cab. Even the console grab handle that nobody will ever use eats up interior space. The lack of a bumper step like the Colorado has or several Ford trucks is a head scratcher yeah you can get a retractable bed step but if there was already a a step in the bumper you wouldn't need something that will get hung up when going over obstacles. There was definitely more thought put into cosmetics, frivolity, and separating customers from their money than anything functional, useful, or class leading designed into the 4G Tacoma. I guess the hybrid is class leading in torque but there are several non hybrid fullsize trucks if you need more horses and Ranger offers two twin turbo sixes that will get you close to HV Tacoma numbers. Nonecof which is hurting sales BTW.

More front leg room and more front and rear shoulder room in the Frontier 4dr cab. It's only .1" more leg room in the 4G. The overall larger dimensions of the Frontier can probably more than make up for the .1" discrepancy in rear leg room.

Curious, is your Frontier on the original radiator? May want to consider separating the radiator and transmission cooler (internal failure is common on those years, killing the transmission).

You may already know about this, but I'd hate for the truck to die just as your son gets it.

I like those 2nd gen Frontiers; had a rental once and it reminded me a lot of my 2nd gen Taco. It is surprising that the new Tacoma has both worse rear seat space and turning radius, though, both weak points on the Nissan.

You answered your own question. Toyota came up with a cosmetic/frivolous/functional design that is clearly preferred by most mid-size truck buyers.

The rear seat dimensions are within 1/2" so claiming a lot more room is a stretch.

It is not the brand, it is 07 vs 24.
Older is imo better but then it takes the older to recognize this. Well some of us anyway.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
Why is the Frontier bed listed as 4'12"?

Tacoma has a much gooder 5' bed!

For the comparison on back seat leg room, I would have to question where the front seat is in the measurements. I would definitely say to sit in one and compare the difference. Or the 2007 Frontier had a lot more back seat room that the 2024.

For the radiator question. My 2007 Frontier was stick shift. 2024 Tacoma is automatic (my first one). I finally decided that automatic has come a long way in improvements. I am getting old. It is a long wait for a Tacoma with stick.

Also in my decision to purchase the Tacoma over a Frontier. Toyota is number 1 manufacturer of cars. Nissan, Honda are falling behind. Ford and GM are worse. The closest Nissan dealer to me closed a year ago. Watch out for Hyundai/Kia in the future. I have a Kia EV and it is great.

You really didn’t. Frontier MSRP in 2007 was ~25,000. That’s $40k today. You can get a MUCH better equipped 2025 Tacoma for $40k than you got a frontier for $25k
