Hi everyone, I'm looking for local help. I live in Frederick, MD. I would like to replace my driver side rear wheel bearing but by the looks of it, I won't be able to do it myself. I need someone who could press out the old bearing and press in the new one. I looked at the dealership, they want 1300.00. Another local shop wanted $850. I'm willing to pay off course but obviously not as much as they are asking. Any help or general how to's would be appreciated. Thanks.

I changed my driver front myself where i bought the whole hub assembly. My problem is with the driver rear which based on a youtube video, is alot more complicated.

I found this video on an older Taco but seems like the procedure would be the same. This video replaces the rear wheel bearings without a press.

I think i may be able to do this myself.

Thanks for this great video Paul. It looks doable for a shade tree mechanic.

Rear bearings are a one piece module on a 2nd gen. I got the timkens from rock auto they have koyo bearings in them. You will also need 2 axle seals. You will have to get someone to press them out unless somebody has better success than me.

OP, the issue with the rear wheel bearings is it takes a special tool and a press. I do not like the short cut way as its easy to goof things up and you may end up spending a whole lot more trying to save a few bux. I have done this a number of times and own the tool and have a press. If you can do some of the work take the axle and wheel bearing out as an assembly, this is not that hard. Then purchase the replacement parts, and take to a place that can do the replacement of your parts on the axle and then you put it back together. Many independent Toyota shops have acquired the special tool over the years. That will be the least expensive.

Do both sides as the other is not far behind. Make sure you get the seal for the diff, and the collar for the axle, and naturally the bearings.
