    Do your doors lock?

That's just as effective as an alarm system.

I wouldn't waste your money, factory alarm systems are effectively worthless and a high end alarm system is several thousand.

When is the last time you heard a car alam that was going off for a reason other than; the kid was playing with the remote, somebody can't find their car in the parking lot, they accidentally hit the button or playing a prank on someone?

Truth is if someone wants to smash and grab the alarm is just going to notify you that your stuff was stolen sooner at best and if they want to steel your car then chances are they know how to do it without triggering the alarm or will do it when they know you're out of earshot of it.

And every man, woman, and child, every cat, rat, and tree branch will be setting it off at all hours of the day and night and draining the battery.

There's a reason they went the way of the dodo.

A lockable bed cover or topper is gonna be your best option.

Look into bed racks. There are some that will still allow you to load equipment in. Then use heavier chains to secure the goods.

As stated above content theft deterrent for stuff in the bed of a truck would be very difficult to do without having alot of nuisance alarms, most alarm systems are designed to keep the inside of the vehicle secure. Maybe set up some dash cams pointing in the bed, might offer some deterrent and maybe even get a mugshot of the thieves.

Vofio Dash cams are cheap and reliable, I run the one that has front and rear camera, and you can get a constant power cable to record when parked. Then just get a couple of big "smile you're on camera" stickers

If someone wants something they will take it. It's all about being a less desirable target than the next guy over. It really really sucks you were robbed, but I think this thread has exhausted all your options.

The only other thing I can think of is that you should add some mounts affixed to your truck, and then attach your equipment to this. Insurance will cover stolen goods that were locked to your truck, I've had to do this in the past and they covered everything that was stolen so long as I provided receipts. This is where a camera is going to cover your ass.
