    hello TW,

well i have recently discovered a massive hole in my frame only 3 years after they treated it for rust.

When i brought it in for the CRC treatment i thought it was pretty rusty and was hoping for a new frame. they instead "treated" it which is now obvious they just sprayed over top of the rust trapping it in.

the hole is on the drivers side near the front. I am going to contact the dealership and see if anything can be done. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated! Pretty bummed out tbh since I just put new suspension, tires , and rims on! Argh

I wonder what causes this. I believe Audi has a 12 year perforation warranty against rust, because they hot dip galvanize their cars before painting at the factory and know it's a good preventative treatment.

Did Toyota make the decision to be cheap and dumb and simply not do that on an expensive all-terrain truck expected to last a long time?

Unfortunately you are passed the 12 year mark. I too had the coating put on years ago and found out this spring that I have a hole in mine. Tried 2 different dealers and even tried to call in a favour to a family friend who manages the service dept at a local toyota, but no luck. It rusts from the inside out so its hard to catch it until its too late. In my opinion there is a major design flaw in these frames. Most of the frame is made up of 2 layers of steel put on top of each other making it lighter and stronger........but water and dirt gets between these layers that you can never get out. It starts to rust and expand creating more of a gap between the layers and boom you got a rotten frame that is hard to treat. I started a thread to see how people went about fixing this hole. I ended up finding a video of someone who fixed theirs on youtube. I say if you can't get it fixed just keep driving it. Only becomes a real problem when the rust spreads to the bottom or top of the frame. Until then its just like having a C channel frame. Best of luck.
