Ok I know there have been several threads on this topic however I would appreciate specific Intel from people with lifted trucks and experiences with this recall/campaign.
I have a 2007 with a 6" suspension lift installed just 3 months ago. I know have been told that my truck fails and needs a frame. The dealer is telling me they will not do the frame swap unless the truck is stock. I can either return it to them stock or they can do it. They say it will be 1000 in parts and labor to return it to stock. So im looking at loosing the 3k I just spent for the lift, another 1k for it to go back to stock and basically another 1k for "stock" sizes tires because obviously the ones I have wont fit back on stock. So a i cant sell the truck defective and b- in future wont pass inspection so i cant drive it so my only option to be out a total of 5k and get a stock old truck back. All of this for something I did not cause or have control over. Something doesn't seem right about this. Suggestions ?

Get them to return your truck to stock ride height and tell them you want to keep your 6" suspension components. Find some cheap worn out tires on craigslist or even from another TW member who's upgrading. Get toyota to install those tires and then after they are done with your truck re-install the 6' suspension and throw on your bigger tires.

I am ok with that but what I am not ok with is having to spend 1000 to get them to return it to stock. Thats what they say it will cost for steering knuckles , rear shocks, ubolts etc. Its bad enough I have to loose the lift and the labor to reinstall it but to have to pay out money to fix there problem. At the end of the day none of this would be an issue if there product didnt fail?

Yup, it's a shitty deal that's for sure. Not much you can do about it. I don't know much about the frame rust recall but from what I understand Toyota has to return the truck to stock because of the liability issue that goes along with the aftermarket suspension.

For what it's worth, you might be able to find some of the stock suspension parts needed for the swap for cheap from local TW members who have upgraded their suspension.

My truck is currently at the dealer waiting on a frame, when I questioned whether my lift would be an issue, they said no and they would keep my leaf springs on instead of putting the new ones from Toyota on when the do the swap. I think the issue here is you have a DB lift, which means they would need to cut the frame to reinstall the lift which would make the liable for it if something went wrong.

I would try to talk with them and see if you can figure something out, I would think if you supplied them with standard front shocks to use and stock spindles, they could put everything on but the front bracket, and you could pull that off of the frame after the swap was complete? Unless you have something crazy done to the rear, everything else would be taken off when they do the swap anyways so it would just be a matter of not putting the parts back on, I dont see why they would need to charge you for taking the lift off. You might even be able to find someone to loan you a stock set of tires and wheels until you get the lift put back on, the guys around here are really generous.

In the end you would have to reinstall the lift again once the swap is complete, it's a crappy situation and I feel your pain, I am without my truck for 6 months, they wouldn't let me drive it while waiting for the frame. I hope it works out for you.
