hi, I got a 2007 4.0 Tacoma..in the last year my truck a few times would not start.
acting like its not getting gas or spark.. you could turn it over a dozen times give or take
then it would start right up like normal..after it would be fine for months starting fine...then out of the blue it would do it again and after trying and trying it would finally start like nothing was wrong..this week it has happen twice...this time I tried it til the battery about was dead went back into the house came out 20mins later started right up..today nothing it will not start..so i took the hose off from the brake booster to the intake shot some starting fluid in the hole and tried to start it.. it did act like it hit but did not run...as far as can i hear the fuel pump kick on and off when i try to strat it...no noise which it never ever has made noise before anyhow..
anybody got any ideas ? thank you for any feed back

The light should NOT be flashing with the key in the ignition.

It should be flashing with the key out of the ignition.

I’d try a different key if you have one.
If it continues to flash, you have a transponder issue.

On a side note, while technically the light should NEVER flash with the key in the ignition. It’s not uncommon that it will in the LOCK position when the ignition switch is worn.

Turn it to ACC or On and it should NOT FLASH. If you look where the key goes into the ignition, it’s labeled.

I started thinking I got a remote starter... so I figured it must block the theft deal...so I tried it...started right up..so I need a new lock tumbler and key switch?

Neither, ideally you should see what codes are set in the immobilizer but a faulty key or Transponder Key Amplifier would be the most likely causes.
Since you have a remote start installed I would want to look that over too as they can tie into all kinds of things and cause issues.
Also if you have any metallic objects near the lock cylinder remove them, I've seen where people installed those bedazzled rings around the ignition switch and it caused the immobilizer to be unable to read the key.
