Looking for some assistance with a 4 wheel drive issue on my 2007 Toyota Tacoma. When I turn my 4 wheel drive switch to high or low, the 4 wheel drive doesn’t engage and the LED light doesn’t appear on my dash panel but if I turn the engine off, with the 4 wheel drive switch still on, and then restart the engine the 4 wheel drive is engaged and the LED light appears on my dash panel. Any idea what may be causing this to happen? Thanks for any assistance

Does the 4wd light flash and not engage or does it not do anything?

When I first turn the 4 wheel drive switch on it does nothing. 4 wheel drive doesn’t engage and light doesn’t come on. If I leave the 4 wheel drive switch on and turn the engine off and then restart the engine a few minutes later, the light is on and 4 wheel drive is engaged.

That's interesting I wonder if one of the diodes failed in the 4wd switch, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head that would cause it to do nothing at first and then work with a key cycle.
Does it work normally when going back to 2wd or 4lo?

You can always check voltages at the 4wd ECU to verify what's not right, see my thread below.

Are you engaging 4X4 high while the vehicle is moving. It works a lot better that way. If you want to go to 4X4 low range it is best to 1st engage 4X4 high while in motion. Then come to a NEAR stop (around 2-3 mph). Shift to neutral then go from 4X4 high to low range. It shifts a lot better if the wheels are turning slowly, but anything above 2-3 mph and it won't engage. After 4X4 low engages then shift the transmission to drive
