    Forget it Phil.
Toyota is being a complete prick about it. Sell the truck and buy a Nissan.

1st of all don't buy a Nissan they have their own issues, but when i put a 4 inch lift and 33inch tires on my truck that minor vibration disappeared. The vibration never bothered me at all, I was planning to mod my truck anyway and i discovered that the lift kit and big tires improved my truck in more then 1 way. The vibration is so minor most just right it off as 'hey its a truck"....

I seem to remember a while ago you mentioned you were going to arbitration... i assume that didnt go well, or have you not yet had a chance to make your case? I just saw this post and wondered what was going on with your situation. Sorry you're turned off to Toyotas now but i probably would be too if i were in your situation. How bout giving us an update on whats going on...

    Hi ND,
Actually would you believe I just returned 15 minutes ago from arbitration.
We covered all the concerns starting with the ticking. When it came time to go for I ride I knew I was in trouble because added payload greatly effects the ride quality and vibration. Between me at 188lbs, the service manager about the same, the Southeast Toyota Dist. rep maybe 200lbs, and the arbitrator I can't guess... The truck did not exhibit any 30>20 MPH shudder, and no 50-70 vibration, well very little. I knew this because I put 15 bags of mulch in the back last month and the truck rode better, not great but better. Unfortunately I don't keep 675lbs in the back daily if ever again.
Upon returning the Toyota rep was steadfast in closing with "NORMAL FOR A TRUCK". So the arbitrator looked at me and said a decision will be mailed in 5 days and is binding on the manufacturer but that "if I want to take it further I can". In other words I lost. Not the end of the world whatsoever, I'm moving on tomorrow.
I do wish all those unhappy with their Tacoma's the very best. From the get go Toyota was terrible with customer relations...in fact so dreadful I stated that at arbitration. The creature by the name of Debbie whom I spoke to in Torrance was a complete A$$HOLE.

What is most amazing to me in this entire process is how successful companies can be with such poor customer service.
    Take care everyone!
    Over and out........

But the vibration is so minor how can you expect the arbitrator to rule in your favor, if the vibration was unbearable then i see your point, but to him you come off as a petty customer. If your that dissatisfied with the vibration buy another brand truck...I'm sure you a will find an issue that you won't like with them also...I love my Tacoma, and if you think your problem is a big issue, check out the tundra forums, that truck has a lot bigger problems then the Tacoma...

    Hey again all,
Let me clear up some stuff for you so you don't think I'm that anal.
    I had 3 important concerns.

    1. Engine ticking. Some are worse than others, mine was BAD and getting worse. Toyota has artfully covered their asses by simply remaining steadfast in that it is the injectors.

    2. Vibration felt in steering wheel only on acceleration. Funny way to best describe it is that it feels like there are bee's inside the steering wheel buzzing. After a day of driving your hands literally tingle. Others have posted here with same feeling. It really is quite something, NOT a nice feeling.

    3. 30>20 mph shudder and 50-70 vibration felt in driveline. Truck or no truck you shouldn't feel this type of vibration in any new vehicle, something somewhere is improperly machined or off kilter. When weight is added the vibration lessens considerably. Unfortunately I don't intend to drive around with 700-800 permanent extra pounds in the bed.

    I hope this helps some.

All i ever felt was a minor drive line shutter in the 1st to 2nd gear shifting. That disappeared when i got a suspension lift and increased my tire size, i never had a steering wiggle....if the steering wheel wiggles then its tires and or alignment, if the driveline shutters then do what i did, "Upgrade", or get the drive shaft rebalanced, i know its something you shouldn't have to do because both cost money but those 2 suggestions will solve the problem...

I think what everyone is trying to say here... basically... No one... in cluding me or you, should have to get an upgrade to get the shudder out of their truck. We spent a lot on our trucks and there shouldn't be a problem like this. These trucks should be rolling out of the factore pretty flawless and if there is a known problem with the truck in any way, they should be fixed in the factory and a fix should be avaible to the customers who have already purchased the truck.
I, as a truck owner should not have to "Upgrade" my truck to make it run smoother. Bull SHIT!

If I was having that kind of major trouble out of my truck I would be pissed and would want Toyota to help me any way possible to make my truck run the best it can run!

But anyway... I'm finished.... Just had to clear my mind a bit.

No new truck or car runs off the assembly line perfect, there are always minor flaws and some major ones to, if you ever worked at and auto plant you know this to be true. The truth is, where Tacoma's are concerned, only a few of them have this problem. Other manufacturers are a lot worst. Its Clear this guy is correct morally, but morality only goes so far in the business world. Legally this guy exercised his option "arbitration" and seems to have lost. Now he must decide to trade this truck in on another brand or modify it to solve the problem..

We all agree this problem shouldn't happen, but thats not the issue anymore....Toyota feels the problem is not excessive enough and the # of complaints are not aggressive enough to warrant a recall to fix this issue.
Thats not bad customer service thats just big business!!! Welcome to the real world...

I got tired of the shutter. I had a local mechanic look at it and he said that it had to do with "flex" in the leaf springs. It is much worse with my truck due to the larger tires and lift due to the larger resistance to start spinning at accelaration. He recommended I see if I could get a traction bar...so I looked around and ProComp has a pair. I had them installed on Monday and the "shutter" completely disappeared. The cost was $600.00 and some change installed. Email me for pic's cause I can't seem to figure out how to attach the photos:<)) johnny.raus@rausconstruction.com

To post a photo into this forum , save the photo to your documents then go to:

press browse button, then look for the photo in your documents then open it, then press host it. The photo site will give 2 choices of address lines for forums.then copy that line text into the message section of this forum and the picture should be there. if the text only is in the message switch to the text line its usually 1 or the other.

Texas taco already showed how he fixed his have yours done and bill the dealer...its an easy fix and if your dealer acknowledges the problem see if they will pay for it.

You'll find a thread that I started earlier in this forum about the problem.

I've given up and do not plan on trying arbitration at this time. Funny thing, though - when I complained to customer service last week about my recent history with Toyota (98 Tacoma frame rusted prematurely forcing sale of truck, not receiving $500 customer loyalty check yet for March purchase, and now a vibration problem that resulted in driveshaft replacement which helped but didn't eliminate the problem), nothing happened except arbitration paperwork showed up in the mail (which I didn't ask for!). Not sure what to think of that...
