It's an extremely involved process with tons of wiring, fabrication/welding and plumbing work. Average install is approx 120 hours. Comparing a Tacoma to a Dodge 2500/3500 is a false equivalency. They are completely different vehicles. I've owned a 2006 Dodge 2500 quad cab 4wd and that truck on a good day got 12-15 mpg city and had tons of problems with everything but the bumpers. Great engine, crappy trans, fit & finish was terrible, and poor mileage. But, it could tow a house behind it. Engine swaps are never a "cheap" idea. Doing it correctly is not an easy task. When you price out any engine swap whether it's a 5.7 hemi into your jeep, or a 4BT cummins into an old Landcruiser, pricing will always be $20k range from anyone who knows their craft. I think there will always be the guys that want to do it themselves however, we certainly dont cater to that crowd. I dont see how one would stay in business otherwise.

Take the time to look at his web site, there is a bunch of work, including buying half of a car fom japan, so you have to understand, it's not going to be a "Hey come over this weekend and help me turn a few wrenches." type of swap. Hell, If I had the cash I would do it. If I had the cash I would get a HILUX from Australia and smuggle it in through Mexico and put my body on that frame, you can't tell me that wouldn't cost a pretty penny. You do some nice work, one day when my rich uncle gets out of the poor house I'd love to give you guys a call.

I would seriously consider this, but for $20,000 there are so many other things I could do to my truck.

    Keep up the good work!

Definitely understand the price tag. Very very cool. More pictures are needed.

If these run stock suspension does it sag very much?

I couldn't afford a swap like this but would it be possible to fit the 4.5L D4D 1VD-FTV into a Tacoma. They come in the Land Cruiser, and I can't imagine the engine bay is that much larger.

The 3.0 would be cool and more efficient but it doesn't really put out more than the 4.0 V6, unless you really can squeeze 425 out of these reasonably?

480 ft-lbs. stock would be bad ass.

Edit: I see you can fit them in the 2000+ Tundras. Have you done any of them? How many ft-lbs can you squeeze out of them?

These put out far more than the 4.0 v6. Chip manufacturer's dyno sheets spec out at 180 hp and 511 ft/lbs. Im hoping for somewhere around 425 ft/lbs on the dyno but we'll see how it goes. The 1GR-FE tops out at 278 ft/lbs running 91 octane gas so even in it's stock form, the D-4D puts out way more than the 1GR-FE.

That graph shows 331 ft-lbs stock?

    512 ft-lbs with a chip and 3" exhaust?

Toyota specs the 3.0 D4D at 253 ft-lbs. Why the discrepancy?

Would it be possible to fit the 4.5L D4D 1VD-FTV into a Tacoma, with some cutting of the firewall? Or is the answer no since you only have these listed for the Tundra?

Have you done any 1VD-FTVs? Any idea what you can squeeze out of them?

Toyota made two versions, the earlier 1KD-FTV had 258 ft/lbs and was made until 2004 overseas. The later model (05+ models) had pilot injection, VNT, and much better fuel control via the ECU which bumped the stock output to 331 ft/lbs. We have two twin turbo 1VD-FTV conversions this year into 09+ Tundras. As far as using it in a Tacoma, Im sure it would fit but that much torque would be too much in my opinion. Especially since the 1KD engines are rocket ships. I couldnt imagine a 1VD-FTV. These can make over 600 ft/lbs with a chip. The biggest problem with the 1VD engines are they are over $18k for the twin turbo model and that's just for parts. They only came in luxury Landcruiser 200 series overseas so they go for bucks at auction.

Well if I could afford a swap like that I'd go all out! Maybe one day, when I graduate school and if I don't have a wife/kids. Thanks for the info.

Are you talking about the Cummins 2500's? We have 3, and the lowest recorded mpg was 15 towing a 10k pound trailer behind it. Currently, 1 has 340,000 miles, the other has 280,000 miles, with only routine mait needed, starter, batteries, and 1 clutch. Now...The gas Dodges are a WHOLE different peice of shit.....
