I see the U.K. Rav4 with the D-4D gets about 39 mpg. Any idea what the D-4D Tacoma will get?

First things first: The D4D in the RAV4 is not the same engine as the 3.0 D4D in the Hilux and this Tacoma. Plus the RAV4 weighs in at a couyple hundred pounds less than the Tacoma, and it is much more aerodynamic. Finally, the 39MPG on the UK website is imperial MPG not US MPG. See this page for the conversion. Still the RAV4 gets a consistent 30-32 MPG in D4D configuration according to what I have been told.

As for this Tacoma, my friend has been out of the office for a few days, but he has heard back from the owner of this truck. If I remember correctly, he is consistently getting mid-20's in fuel economy. That is with that gargantuan thing on the bed and the 4.0 V6 in there.

My fiance and I drove it to the photo shoot, and we took all of the post swap pictures you see here. We loved driving it. It was very quiet (except for the snorkel intake sound), and it had gobs of low end torque. It was a blast to drive. The problem: now my fiance has the bug and wants to do a D4D swap in her 4Runner ASAP.

We are currently beta testing a DIY "kit" for the D-4D setups. These go into the '05+ Tacomas. We have room on the container for (5) more spots. If you're interested, email for pricing.

sorry for the thread resurrection, but how are the stock A750's holding up to the diesel's torque. I know its a little lower on HP but TQ is what ultimately beats them up. You guys use the trans that comes behind the D-4D, or beef the stockers up?

Im so pissed that i happened upon this thread, now its all i'm gonna think about, wishing I had a diesel taco...I love oil burners, in fact my taco was almost a cummins

The A750 is the same tranny that was behind the 4.7 for years. The 4.7 put out more torque than the D-4D.

I need to be fully awake before i start banging off posts on here hahaha. What I really wanted to ask was "how is it holding up behind the diesel w/ the tune on it" instead of what I wrote.

well....There are alot of SC'd folks pushing over 320 ft. lbs to the tires with the auto, so Im guessing, being the stock D4D is about 255 ft. lbs torqe, a modded one pushing 350 or so would be just fine.

Last I heard that transmission was holding up just fine behind the D4D. Diesel Toyz and I don't frequent TW very much these days as much as we would like due to the craziness of life. I will be running down to the shop later this week. I will ask him about it then.

We use the stock diesel A340F 4-speed autos behind the D-4D's.

Waste of money IMO buy a new taco which is 30 grand and then spend 20 grand more making it diesel? Your better off importing a hilux, or buying a big diesel for towing, the fords and dodge 2500's or f250 s are wonderful trucks.

Scratch that I'd spend 30k on a new taco then blow the rest on hookers and cocaine

Did you ever finalize a DIY Kit? I've done multiple swaps (LS1 Rx7 twice about 300 hrs each) I can't see this being difficult (for me) being that it's all the same manufacturer. I'd seriously like to do this if there were a DIY kit available.
