Add me to the list of JBL-confused Taco owners. I recently bought an '08 with the JBL system and have been asking Dr Google lots of questions about upgrades which allow keeping the HU (for security). I'm at a point where I'm thinking it's better (ie: less hassle for not much more expense) to ditch all the door speakers, the sub (keep the enclosure), and the amp. I'm not an audiophile or DIY purchase/installation expert. My priorities are sound quality over volume, ease of installation, and price. After comparing specs and prices I'd replace with the following:

front door components, Polk Audio DB6502, 92dB, 100w RMS, 4ohms (already bought on a wicked sale, hence somewhat committed, $185Cdn = $142US)

rear door 2-ways, Polk Audio DB652, 92dB, 100w RMS, 4ohms (prefer to have match to component speakers, $98Cdn = $75US)

subwoofer, Polk Audio DB842 SVC, 84dB, 250w RMS, 4ohms (8"dia + shallow mount fits stock JBL sub enclosure, inexpensive + good reviews, $105Cdn=$80US)

    amp, Pioneer GM-D9605, 5-channel, 75w RMS x 4 + 350w RMS x 1 @ 4ohms, class D, wired remote bass control f/sub, speaker level inputs (fits in current JBL amp location, class D = runs cooler in enclosure, $400Cdn = $305US )

Price, $788Cdn = $602US (plus wiring, connectors, sound deadener, speaker baffles, etc @ $250Cdn/$192US)

    Please, let's hear/read opinions/options.

All looks good to me. Just be sure to check and double check to make sure all your wiring colors and locations at the amp are correct.
