    for the 2008 model year, 4x4 AC V6 w/manual was it just the off road models that came with the factory rear locker?

    2017 Black TRD Off Road 4x4, 2019 MGM 4Runner SR5
    TRD Off Road and TRD Pro models are the only ones with rear lockers until 2022 when the SR5 Trail Edition will also come with one. I believe TRD Pro didn't arrive until 2015 so, to answer your question, yes.
