I have a 2008 Tacoma double cab that is showing significant corrosion on the roof of the vehicle. Has anyone else experienced this? It's been a great vehicle with 155k miles so far. I hope it lasts another 155, but I am concerned that the corrosion will create a hole in the roof. See pictures.IMG_0027.jpg IMG_0028.jpg

I had a less severe paint corrosion on my 2008's roof.. I ended up having it fully repainted.

Happens a lot on many vehicles. The roof and hood are very exposed to the elements. They must be protected with regular washes and wax or they will get sun damaged. I would have it addressed so that it wont get worse.

It could lead to a leak over time.

Super common to see this stuff here in AZ with the sun being such a strong factor here... I suppose the only way to really fix it right would be new paint. I don't know much about painting but maybe a shop could sand it down, re prime and paint just the roof and blend it in to the pillars. Have no idea though.

I suppose if you didn't care about looks you could always sand it down yourself and hit it with a couple shots of primer and call it a day.

Roofs are thin, have it sanded down [or do it yourself] primed and repainted. Once it rusts through, you'll be fighting the rust monkey forever.

Not bad so far, did it this summer, will see how it holds up during high winds, low temperatures, and snow of winter.

Plastidip is a recipe for a small hole to allow water in. Sand the rust off and have a body shop paint it. Saw these on several 2nd gens I now wax polish twice a year and make sure to do necessary touch ups.

I sanded mine before I covered it. Primed it, plasti dipped it with a few layers, put a clear coat on after that.

    None yet :D
Unless it’s a beauty queen trick or you plan on reselling it one day, I’d just sand it and paint it yourself eith color matched paint rattle cans

I would have loved to have my truck repainted but sometimes it's just not in the budget :spending:

I mean, it's the roof. No one (except maybe the owner haha) is going to pay that much attention to what it looks like.

If you put paint type clear coat over the plasti dip you might as well have painted it instead because it will no longer peel off like plasti dip would... hopefully you're aware of that :3

It doesn't quite shine like paint does, it's more matte, but I don't care.
