2008 SR5 or 2009 TRD Sport?

Pricepoint is really the main factor. That aside, I would go for the TRD Sport no doubt.

Having said that - the 2008 SR5 is $3000 less than the 2009 TRD Sport.

Both clean. 42K miles on the 2009 and 36k on the 2008.

I guess what I'm struggling with - is the $3000 extra worth the TRD Sport package? I will spend the cash if I actually get $3K of value.

the 2009 TRD Sport has these extra features:
    - alloys
    - bilsteins / better suspension? how much better?
    - tonneau cover
    - power outlet
    - overall nicer trim pckg and the hood scoop that I dont really care about
    - ?what else am i missing?

Both the SR5 and the TRD will be gradually upgraded (shocks, alloys/MTRs, etc) I like to build up my trucks.
So the question becomes, does the TRD offer $3K worth of extra value and/or is it "segnificantly different" to where I can't easily get the same by gradually upgrading the SR5.

    Any opinions?

The seats would be the big factor for me. TRD seats are way nicer and better. I would go for the sport if you got the money. See if you can get it for 1K less.

You're missing the LSD (auto), the TPMS in the spare (not on the 09 which is a good thing), and some color matched junk. The Sport will have sport seats too I think. I'd rock the sport........as long as it wasn't SGB. :stirthepot:

Check to see if the SR5 has had the suspension TSB performed on it. If it has, it will have the same shocks as the TRD sport. The difference would be the thicker sway back in the sport. But, if you're planning on upgrading all the suspension components anyways, it really doesn't matter which one you choose suspension-wise.

You're paying for cosmetics and creature comforts in the TRD Sport, color coded grille, bumper, mirror covers, alloys and a fancy scoop. You can add any and all of the components of a TRD Sport to a base SR5. The seats would be an expensive swap, but the invertor in the bed could be added aftermarket. If they're both at the same dealership and are the same bed length, you could probably negotiate the tonneau cover with the SR5, they're easy enough to remove and change over.

Also, as mentioned above, the Sport has LSD which is a personal preference. I don't have it and haven't gotten into a situation which I felt I needed it either.

The seats in the Sport are actually a big deal for me, I take long rides and the back is jacked up ,,, I didnt catch that in my original assessment.

Seats, plus the alloys, the 112V power, tonneau cover, LSD, etc. etc. sounds like the extra cost is justifiable.

in the end, I'm gonna drive it & pay for it, so it's what i want. and i want the sport. :>

Lots of good info, thanks all

explain LSD to me.. i feel like I should know this, but having an open diff (on the Jeep) for the last 12 years and having never been stuck, I wonder what benefit LSD provides .. other than temporary perceived enlightenment and wicked visuals . .. sorry i had to.

The 09 will also have side curtain airbags that the 08 does not have. That was a big deal to me. Plus the aux input, backup cam, and the ALSD.
