220K miles and the automatic transmission has been slipping foe a while. I had a fluid and filter service done and it didn't help. Have you replaced yours? Any advice?

You wasted money on a service at that point, in fact you could have bought a little more time before you needed to rebuild/replace if you'd left it alone. I'd find a reputable independent shop and see what they advise. If they are a good shop you should be able to have it rebuilt for somewhere between $2K-$3K and be as good as new.

If you can find a decent transmission in a scrap yard about 1/2 that price. If you choose a new factory transmission double that price if you let the dealer do it. I might let an independent shop install a new transmission and you'd just have to talk to them. I'd avoid the dealer at all costs.

I have a local shop that I'd trust with a rebuild. But how successful that works out depends entirely on the shop that does the work. There are a lot of bad shops out there.
