When I go to get on the freeway sometimes I notice the transmission doesn't shift normal it seems. It seems to want to shift at a higher then morning RPM.

So I just give it a little more gas and finally it shifts.

I tend to only notice this when I am getting on the freeway. Any thoughts?

I have about 40,000 miles on it and it has always done it. Never taken it in doesn't seem to affect anything.

Depending on the angle of the truck it will hold the gear longer to keep you in the power band.

Really, I have never heard of that.

I do tend to notice it more when I am going down the on ramp to get on the freeway. It is a steeper on ramp

Yep that's why it's doing it. Use cruise control if you want exaggerated shifts. Going up hill it will often drop one or two gears.

If you are going downhill it will sometimes hold the gear depending on what you are doing with the brake and gas.
