Looking at a 08 with 190k for 13k wondering if this is a good price. Extended cab 6sp. The other options is a 2014 with 135k but with an auto. I have had terrible luck with auto.

You should ask them to sell it to you in pieces so you can save a little money due to assembly required.

    Kinda like a jigsaw puzzle

In the process of replacing the frame, are they replacing other wear parts? shocks, mounts, other wear items?

I looked at one of these frame replacements the other day and the dealer left off a bunch of items, guards, plastic parts, etc. it looked weird.

Make sure you test drive the truck thoroughly and see how the transmission feels. I love my 6spd, but it takes some getting used to for sure and its not for everyone. Another thing to keep in mind is that the earlier 6spds had problems with the synchros wearing out and causing problems when changing gears.

Id recommend creating an account on toyotaowners.com , entering the vin number in there and looking at the maintenance history done at the toyota dealerships by the previous owner. If everything checks out, i say make them an offer. The 6spd in an access cab is a sweet combo in my opinion

What kind of problems have you had with the auto in the past?

My auto is an 09 with 120,000 and I haven't had any issues with it yet. I'd probably go with whatever has the new frame.

A TRD OR should have color matched flares. What's up with the black flares?

It’s the rugged trail edition from 08. That is the factory configuration

Seeing that naked chassis gives me impure thoughts... So pretty...

Anyway, people have paid more for Tacos with more miles, worse frames and lots of other issues. That one looks damn clean. I'd say budget $500 a year for various maintenance and repairs and enjoy that thing for the next 10 years.

I have the same truck. And have had it for 8 years now. No problem with my manual other than the throwout bearing, which is a common issue. The RT is not very common (which is cool). Good year for the Tacoma, minus the frame, but it’s getting a new frame, so boom. Anyway, no electronic BS. No traction control, no stability or atrac, just good old fashioned badassery. Not to mention the awesome bedside decals. I love mine, and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I had a rugged trail and loved the look. Tried to recreate the decal on my current one

Ok created on account. Funny thing 2016 last service was 162k otherwise every 5k it was in the dealership. Not sure if traded than but it says one owner.

Maybe the owner got wise and started doing their own maintenance.

That doesn't seem too bad. 28k without any maint isn't a game changer imo on these trucks, but its definitely time for some spark plugs and time to go through it again. On my 4 banger, I have 225k and haven't had to replace anything that was failing except for a starter that went out at 175k. The starter on these 4cyls is much smaller though and my mom has an FJ with the 4.0 with 250k and the original starter. I'm a big advocate of fluid flushes to keep these trucks healthy and running a long time. I plan on taking both of my trucks to the grave with me so maintenance is on the top of my list to maintain longevity.

If you end up getting serious about purchasing one, theres a member on here that can get you a free Carfax report. You can PM @ETXTacoma and he can help you out. I got him to send me one whenever I was purchasing earlier this year and I basically used it to see if the one the dealer was providing me with was legit. Everything checked out and I've had a great time with my six speed.
