ok. 2008 tacoma prerunner DC with Toytec adjustable coilovers on the front (bilstein 5100 shock) and a 2" (I think) rear block and single 3/4" (I think) AAL with Bilstein 5100 shock. I've got 116k miles on it. I replaced the shocks around 80k miles. After two weekends of road trips I've had it. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, 33 now. Lol. But the ride is harsh. Stiff. Every little bump is felt and felt hard. Gotta make a change. Looking for options and opinions. Should I:
A.) use OEM coilovers with Toytec 2.5" spacers.
B.) swap out the bilstein shocks for some hydro shocks? Heard they ride smoother.
    C.) something else?
I'm running some bfg MT tires 285/75r16 FYI.
Don't wanna spend I pile of money on it but need a change.

What load rating on your tires? PSI?

You running Eibach coils? Those are a bit stiffer than a comparable, like OME.

Add a leafs and MT tires (E load I assume) aren't doing you any favors in the ride department. A real leaf pack will help substantially. My old add a leaf rode like a wagon.

Load rating I'm not sure of. I can look.
    Usually run 35 psi.
Yes the Eibach springs. So you recommend Old Man Emus? Which ones? Will they fit my shocks?

Which leaf pack do you recommend?

I like them better, Eibach are 620 lbs and OME is 590, Toyota coils are 530 IIRC.

I'm probably not the best to ask. I had a add a leaf and it was rough as hell. I now have the skyjacker leaf pack which is very similar to the stock leaf pack with more lift. I will be trying out the allpro next. I'm sure others have some recommendations for a softer riding leaf pack.

I'd probably look for a like new 4 leaf OEM pack, you can find it for $100 or less here on this forum, something someone took off a brand new truck in favor of some aftermarket pack.

Add a 3 leaf progressive AAL from @HeadStrong Off-Road and that's a 2 inch lift with a softer ride than what you have now.

I had one for my first lift and it was pretty good riding.

I noticed there's a recall for my leaf pack. Does the dealership replace my old leafs with new ones? Would that suffice plus the 3 leaf progressive AAL you mentioned?

I'm not sure what the fine print of the recall reads, but I'd look into that first then reassess the ride after.

The 3 leaf is an option either way.

Does anyone know of a company that makes a hydro front strut that lifts? Thanks in advance

Ok, so updates. Almost a year later and the ride is stiff. Yesterday Toyota removed my old OEM leafs and my AAL and replaced them with the new recalled issues rear 4 leaf pack. I still have a 2" lift block installed in rear though. I lost a noticeable bit of rear lift. Ass end is now down a bit. Looking at correcting that and the stiffness of the front end. I want as close to factory ride quality as possible. Should I just go with my OEM coilers and add a 3" spacer? Ready to pull the trigger on this.

the spacer is going to ride like shit. get you a good set of coilovers like ADS/king/fox/OME AND some new leaf springs like some dakars and rear shocks. I don't know what your budget is but find what works for you. pm Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road. she will set you up with the right coils for whatever weight you need.

Agree- a spacer is the lowest level lift you can buy. Figure out your budget and even take it in stages but I recommend you focus your resources to buy the best components you can afford for the front. As stated previously, put a 3 leaf aal with your new leaf pack and you should be fine for quite a while. The back will be nice and soft/ progressive for the money you have into it. For the front I'd go with a bare minimum of an ome strut and move up from there as your budget allows. Just keep in mind if your going for 2.75" or more then you'll need to consider new upper control arms. Ultimately and I'm not trying to sound condescending if you want a stock riding truck leave it stock. Oh yeah if your 285s are load range e then over inflation can be a factor- I know this was mentioned previously too.

My 285/75r16 BFG MT KM2's are load range E with 35 psi in them. Money isn't an issue. When I purchased the truck new in 2008 I research extensively both on here and on toyotanation. I bought what was considered to be very good parts. Toytecs then top notch coilover, http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Toytec-Ultimate-Coilovers-_p_1171.html , and TC UCA's as well. I have have Bilstein rear shocks and 2" rear block and previously had the 1" AAL but its now removed. I've always wondered about the OME as I heard they ride very smooth on road. 884 or 885 coils. 885 is recommended for DC tacoma so I'd go with it I guess. I do not have a massive front bumper so I'm good there. Should I go with the lighter 884 coil? I would add the top plate to it. http://www.oldmanemu.com.au/old-man-emu-suspension-selector/ which includes the struts and shocks and 885 coil springs with top plate and the CS047R Rear leaf pack. Thoughts on that as far as ride quality?
Also just came across the Rancho 2.75" quick lift system. I like that its adjustable so I could hopefully find a smooth ride setting. I've lifted Jeeps and Tahoes before and they rode better witt the aftermarket suspension than factory. Hard to believe that Tacomas don't have an option for a smooth ride.

seeing that you are a prerunner. 884 are good. I think you tire are you main problem with ride. I have load range e on mine and even with ADS coilovers I feel everything in the road with psi at 40. but it's not really as bad as it was with a spacer kit. pm Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road if you are looking at ome kits she has everything you need

Ill PM her. This is my second set of tires. The others weren't like this and the ride was just as stiff. I just don't feel any given in the suspension, especially the front. 884 OME even though I'm in a DC, are the heights of the 884 and the 885 the same? just a softer spring? Will the 884 and the 885 lift the same height?

So the 884 is shorter in height than the 885's?
