    Hey there guys,
The low air light has come on. I’ve checked all tires, including the Spare air pressure. All seem good. The light suddenly came on and it won’t go off even after doing a reset with the button underneath the steering column. Any ideas?

When you first turn the truck on doe the light blink for a while, then stay on?
If so, it’s probably a bad TPMS Sensor.

    Always something
Tire shops like Discount Tires have the TPMS scanner that can scan each of the sensor. It’s a free service and can be done quickly.

and if it is 1 sensor, don’t be surprise if the other sensors will be going out as well. Maybe easier to negotiate a deal to do all 4.

One of mine in my 07’ went out over 2 years ago.
Seems about right to me, that yours would be a sensor.

Have you turned on the truck and rolled down the road a bit after making sure your at 29-30 psi if it doesn’t go off you probably have a bad tpms. I know mine stays on for a mile sometimes after airing back up after a weekend of fun.

The batteries are probably dead. Now if you’re like me who actually checks my tire pressure at least once a week and is annoyed by the light. I took the dash cluster apart and put a small piece of black tape over the light. Problem solved at least for me

First thing that comes to mind is dead batteries, but usually that'll make it flash

Sometimes you have to drive a bit and it'll reset on its own

Sometimes ive had to get into the system with a scan tool and clear tpms related codes

Discount tire charges $60 + tax for replacement TPMS sensors, includes installation.

You can buy 4 sensors for $80 on Amazon.

    https://www.amazon.com/Mobiletron-P...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

You're going to need a 5th for the spare on that truck, so just over $100 for all 5 new sensors.

    https://www.amazon.com/Mobiletron-P...37------------&vehicleName=2008+Toyota+Tacoma

If you're close to needing new tires I'd just wait until I buy tires. Any tire store will install them at no extra cost while mounting new tires. If they have to break down the tires and install them expect $10-$20 per tire.

The expected battery life is around 7-10 years, but occasionally you see them last longer. The ones in my 2007 are still working after 13 years. I'll need tires in about a year or 2 and am going to wait until then to buy new sensors. Even if my old ones are still working they will be replaced then. But mine will most likely die before then. I'll just have to deal with the light on until I buy new tires.

And I do highly recommend replacing them. Spending $80-$100 every 7-10 years isn't that much money. And the sensors do serve an important function. They don't replace an air gauge. They do give you a few seconds advance warning if you hit something in the road that leads to a rapid tire deflation. Giving you a few seconds to slow down and get to the shoulder of the road before the tire comes apart. That is what they are designed to do.

Consistant pressure readings including the spare? May be a loose valve core, slow leak, temp. change, etc. Check with a guage on a regular basis, then you'll know instantly. Explore all options before changing TPMS units. 15 years and I'm still on original TPMS's.

Thank u all u guys for responding. It has been helpful.

so here is a follow up question. I purchased a sensor tool to check all tires. But I understand there’s a manner on how to set up the truck, where u have to click the ignition back and forth...some kind of pattern. Anyone know how. How many clicks?

What are you referring to when you got a sensor tool and I am not following the key turn thing at all. If you are referring to turning the light off due to low pressure it will turn off after a little driving with the correct pressure (25 psi or more I’m pretty sure in the Tacoma’s)

    Hi
I meant the scanner tool to test the tpms or reset them. I saw this video on YouTube where this guy explained the process and sequence on the ignition, but I can’t find that video anymore. He was clicking the ignition back and forth, then made the horn beep, then he said now u can test the Roma with the scanner.

What tool did you buy? You should be able to just scan each sensor without ever getting in the truck until you write the ids to the truck via the obdII port.

I got a question 4 U - so you buy them from Amazon for $20 each - then what do you do with them ? They have to be installed and programed don't they ? Shops don't like you to supply your own parts and they would have to be able to program them - Any reply on how to handle this appreciated

You would have to take the sensors to have them installed and programmed and most tire shops won’t guarantee parts they didn’t supply. So after buying the sensors and paying for install it might be cheaper to buy sensors thru a tire shop where they’ll atleast guarantee they work.

As stated in other TPMS threads, Toyota tire pressure sensors are supplied by Denso but manufactured by Pacific Industries. I can't comment on the service life of aftermarket sensors, but if you want OEM quality, then the Denso sensors are what you want. They are about $30ish on Amazon. Be advised that the alloy wheels and steel wheel sensors are different.....
