My 2008 Tacoma with a 3.5 litre, 6 cylinder engine has been having problems cranking over at times. I turn the key to start and nothing. All dash lights light up. I put the transmission in Neutral and roll the truck a few feet and it seems to crank over either in Neutral or if I put it back into Park.

My dealer has indicated there is a sensor that will not let the engine crank if it thinks the truck is in gear. He said one of the wires from the sensor was corroded.

Today, when I finally did get it to start, there was a hesitation after I put it into Drive from Park or Neutral.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? What was the fix?

    Thanks,

    Paul in Nipigon

Did you swap the new 3.5L into your 2008?

Sounds like maybe an issue with the trans range sensor wiring following the engine swap. Haven’t seen that done on a second gen yet, curious how you made up the harnesses.
