2008 transmission shifting problem

2008 tacoma V6 double cab

My 08 tacoma double cab V6 (145k miles) has developed a shifting problem. Under light acceleration on any upgrade in the 25 to 45 mpg range, the trans makes a jerking/ thumping action like it is trying to downshift. Let up on the gas and it will stop, or give more gas and it will downshift normally. Shifts perfectly fine in all modes when under moderate to heavy throttle.
Any ideas?
