Tomorrow the engine will be fitted in the tundra..

    How?

We will use the tundras exhaust manifold in the tacoma heads, blocking the air valves in the manifolds. Leaving disconnected the sensors and try turning the thing on.

I will make sure ya'll know the results tomorrow.

I will have the tundra's heads fixed soon, if this will cause too many problems I will stick the tundra's heads back to the truck and that's it.

Tacoma ECU wouldn't work, not only because the wiring is different, but because some wires are not long enough... Tested. The tundra is just a bit larger in the engine bay.

I'm not so sure about this unless I find how to communicate the air flow with the exhaust manifold in the inside, because the area where the heads meet the exhaust is bigger in the tundra.

I hate to hear about these issues given I just bought my 4.0 taco last week and in large part because of its reliability. My dad has put 200k plus on two LandCrusiers( straight6 and V8) and 150k on a v8 Tundra. I know I jumped in late on this thread but I would have to say this is previous owner negligence.. and I'm not sure you can correct it. I'm sorry to hear about this, and hope you have luck with the new engine. Don't write off those Toyota's just yet.. I've seen some great things..

I would just suggest to open a valve cover and see what you have in your used engine. It's extremely easy in these trucks, and as the gasket is rubber, you won't have to change it. If you see sludge, you have time to fix it.. That's what I should have done when I bought it.

Don't say snake light! It is a borescope.

I got mine under 30k miles with all the records and a 100k BTB warrentee... Hopefully, I shouldn't have to worry but I might as well have a look.

Giving a look won't hurt.. It's easy and will give you peace of mind...

I still regret every second I didn't do that before, because it's not only what the engine and labor costs, time waisted and trips to the mechanic, but the issues retrofitting it what's driving me crazy!

Are you using a grinder to connect the air injection port to the exhaust port on the manifold?

    Guys the job is done.

The tundra's exhaust manifold was used in the tacoma's engine. Secondary air injection valves were closed properly.

Installed the engine, turned the key and it ran...

It ran just perfectly... There were no surprises, everything fitted and worked. I will see how it behaves in the next few days.

Thank you everyone for your help.

    Big +1 there.

Sucks to have had the problem in the first place, but we all learned something in the process.

I don't know if I will keep it...

Last few days I've paid more attention to the Tacoma's and damn, some mods make the truck look so nice...

I'll maybe trade this big thing for a taco..

Drove 300miles today, perfect... It feels stronger than before, absolutely nothing seems to be wrong.
