Sounds like bad luck. I would no give up on the truck. Put a new/different engine in it and you should be good for many, many miles. These are good vehicles.

Good luck and again thanks for posting and the prompt follow-up with everyones questions and for hanging in there dispite a few of the hate posts. You have to admit that trolls suck and everyone is pretty quick to try to root them out.

Ive seen these type of failures with other manufacturers and Ive seen them many times in hydraulic systems especialy when the improper oil was used that is why I commented on the heavier oil as a possibility. More than likely there was a manufacturing defect in one of the many components or an assembly issue.

I liked my Tundra so far. and I'm still thinking about selling it or not. I already found a used engine, but I don't know...

Thanks for your comments. I will let everyone know the future news.

    Maybe, maybe not.

Refer to my post above. OP switches don't trigger until somewhere in the 3-10psi range... and that range can apply to any brand sensor in any engine.
3psi might be enough at idle, but it's not enough at 2000rpm hauling a load up a grade.

But the light won't come on as long as it's higher than that, and there's no secondary oil pressure monitoring system.

    Guys,

Does anyone know if I can fit a Tacoma engine?

I mean I know its also a 1GRFE but a seller told me that they don't use the same camshaft... I'm not sure about that, even so, will that prevent it to work with my ECU?

I'm buying a tacoma engine from someone at this forum and I really need to have my truck fixed asap. But looked everywhere and I'm not able to find any answer. I know the intake is different and I will use my own intake. that's not a problem.

I would be hesitant to get a motor without the ECU because think, you got to any parts store or dealer for a reman engine/ECU they are getting VIN digits. If your getting from someone MINUS the ECU, check with the dealer to make sure they are cross compatible, and you may still be looking at a reflash at minimum no matter what.

But if someone here can verify whats required to cross motors with no ECU swap then go for it. and best of luck!

I boubt there is anything different between 1GFRE of Tacoma or Tundra. Its the same engine different computers. Same with FJ. If you swapping just engine (moving electronics from old one) then there should not be any difference. Easiest way to make sure is get both VIN numbers and go to parts dept in Toyota dealer to verify.
Edit: Unless you found updated versio nwith Dual VVTI or something. But 2008 engine would be the same.

The engine is coming from a 2007 tacoma and going to a 2008 tundra. I also think so, if the mechanics are the same, then it will work.. I just wanted to make sure someone else has cross changed this engine before.

To comment on your post regarding the "Cams" being different, they should be the same, seeing as the tundra isnt running dual vvti like the FJ does. I dont see any problem with this swap, but i will be talking to my parts dept here shortly to try to verify 100% for you.

Alright, this is what i have so far, the blocks are the same, the CAMS are the same, heads are different and intake is different which you already commented on. Being the tundra has secondary air injection valves that sit on the heads makes me wonder if this could be why they are different, but i really cant dertermine much beyond making assumptions. I personally think you will be fine with the swap, my only concern will be with the intakes and making sure you properly secure those secondary air injection valves.

Hopefully this info helps, please keep us posted to let us know the final outcome as it might help another member in the future.

I'll for sure keep you guys posted.

Just to double check, you say you would close the second air valve?

I can just put the tundra intake in the tacoma engine and close the air valve that wont be used... Right?

??? I dont follow, i figured you would switch over your intake and still use the air valves. I had said for you to make sure to secure them properly if the proper bolt holes arent there for them.

I get the impression that would require swapping the heads, and given what happened to the original engine, I'd be hesitant to do that.

Thats part of my point, the heads are different and i'm sure the tacoma heads wouldnt have the bolt holes for the air valves like the tundra heads would, but then again i have never looked for them specifically.

I bought an engine that is complete. What if I just put that thing in the place of the actual engine? I mean, using the same intake manifold and everything
