I drove the truck for about an hour. After sitting for about an hour, it started briefly but stalled. After that, it would crank over but not start. Luckily I was home where I could work on it. I first suspected no fuel. I checked all fuses and relays related to the fuel pump. I then removed the brake booster vacuum hose and sprayed brake clean it to check if it would start on that. Normally you can get a brief start if fuel is what is missing from the equation. I leave it for a bit to do some some googling to see if I can get some ideas.

I read that I could unplug the throttle position sensor or the maf sensor. If they were defective, it should start, just run like crap. I first tried the throttle position sensor, it started right up. (I believe this was only a coincidence) I plugged it back in and it kept running. It has started and ran fine since.

Just to check to see if the engine would run on the brake clean, I removed the fuel pump relay and again sprayed brake clean in the vacuum line port. It started and ran for 5-10 seconds as I suspected it would. This helped my eliminate the fuel pump.

There was a check engine light on when I got it running but I'm pretty sure it was because I started it with the throttle position sensor unplugged. I disconnected the battery for a few seconds and it didn't come back on.

    What should I do now?

    1. Drive it until it happens again and have it towed to a shop? (where it will probably start right up)

    2. Unleash the parts cannon?

The truck has 220,000 miles and nothing had been replaced except scheduled maintenance.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Darrell
