Same here with the clutch and the brake pedal... Thankfully, I only get the Mustang out of the garage once or twice during the summer... I look like an idiot for the first 5 minutes after switching vehicles... Fortunately, the Mustang doesn't need a back up camera.

the brakes on these trucks to do suck. The fronts are under sized and the rear aren't even discs, kinda pathetic.

I thought so. I now 'feel' the truck braking thru the pedal, instead of the wheels. If that makes any sense to you. Some have said that it's b/c of the bleeding that had to be done to change the lines, that may be so, but I'm still happy I had them done.

The brakes on my new 09 are horrible. The brakes do not have a good feel at all and do not make me feel confident it the trucks stopping ability.

I feel your pain, my daily driver (airbrake equiped Volvo 670) has better brake feel and feedback than my brand new Tacoma. Sometimes the Tacoma pulls hard one way or the other when I first get in the truck after a few weeks out on the road, but a fast hard stop from 35-40mph seems to cure this. Probably a piston sticking, but I need to bleed the brakes just to be sure.

The brakes seem to have adequate power, just don't really have much feel to them and require more effort than I would like. The brake and clutch pedals both feel kind of numb if you ask me. I would have liked it better if the brakes and clutch to had more of a sports car feel than the mushy feeling system it currently is.

Same here, but, they will get better, or you will get used with them.
Now I am at 9000milles and 10 months ownership and barely notice them at all.
    Take care

Mine are okay except for wet weather. They typically pull like hell at first and seem to take forever to clear water out of the calipers.

I test drove an 09 with smushy brakes, and I saw it had been on the dealer's lot since November 08.

The one I bought was produced in July 09 (at NUMMI) and has nice firm brakes. At 13,000 miles they're still nice and firm and are holding up well (no noticeable wear).

I think the brakes work pretty well. A couple of days ago a mofo came blasting out of a parking lot exit and across the street. I went down on them and stopped fine.

I can see where they are a little mushy feeling but they work. I do back in a lot when I park, and I was told that backing up and stopping helps keep the drum brakes adjusted out.

they are definitely mushy, this is "normal", but they do stop ok. it feels like there is a bowl of oatmeal somewhere between the pedal and master cylinder. I can't see braided hoses making a big difference as this is the only vehicle i've ever had with such mushy brakes and they all have had stock rubber hoses. I have an 18 yr old car with all original parts, less pads, in the brake system and it feels 10X better than the tacoma which has 280k less miles on it. It almost feels like the Tacoma brakes need to be bled but this is a common complaint so I assume it's just a design issue.

I just replaced my brake lines with goodridge ss lines and man it's a huge difference. Check our my sig for the group buy, anyone who has done this will tell you it's worth every penny.

With 40K mileage on the truck my brakes are now acceptable in stopping power and it no longer makes a hideous chattering noise at low speeds under hard braking that causes people to stare.

It's broke in now but someone should tell Toyota that NASCAR style brake pads aren't desirable on a truck, unless it's an X Runner.
