2009 Five speed auto transmission question

    New to the forum.

    I just got a 2009 tacoma trd sport 4 door with automatic transmission. I have been a life long toyota guy but have never had an auto transmission. How is everybody using the 4-D vs. the 4 gear selection?

    The OD certainly downshifts everything... Should I use the 4 gear for city and back road driving and the 4-D for highway? The manual says to use the 4-D for normal driving.....?

    What say you?

    I put it in D and go. I will sometimes leave it in 4 if I want it to be a little more responsive but otherwise I just put the truck in D.

    Leave in D for normal driving. Offroad or in poor weather (snow/ice) the gated shifter is awesome for that extra control.

    snugtop, piaa, weathertech, westin, oem bed mat, trd seat covers, avs inchannel vent visors, 2" suspension lift, front diff drop, rear differential breather extension, oil filter drain hose, a/c drain hose extention & reroute, front window tint, cat theft protection plate, tailgate clamp mod, xpel headlight/foglight protecters, oem block heater, bfg 265/75R/16 a/t k/o's, cabin air rodent protection screen, rcbs illuminated 4X4 switch mod
    I do the same, and if the transmission searches for a lower gear while towing the boat up to the lake I'll drop it down a gear to 4th...but get back into drive as soon the road levels out a bit.
    I use the lower gears more while wheeling
    offroad.

    D all the time. When I come to a stop I use the j gate to engine brake me to a perfect stop using no brakes. I love having an Automatic with a good chunk of the versatility of a manual.

    No...gas tank. It's a petroleum byproduct right? My truck runs on petrol. How the fuck does this not work?
