Definitely. Looks aren't everything in a truck. Some larger wheels and it would look quite nice.

That offcenter hood scoop is the main problem in most of them.

Looks aside, the Hilux is definitely the more burly truck in terms of hauling and payload. Tacomas seem more capable in offroad situations. Get either one blown and you've got a monster for a "midsize" pickup.

I couldn't disagree more. V6 technology is totally different than diesel tech, apples to oranges. Try matching the Jetta TDI and it's 48mpg with a similar V6. Can't be done. I'm not going to even get into towing...

Man. I would love a Diesel Hilux. Mostly because it comes with manual shift 4x4. And you can get Nav in them.

I think importing one of these to states that have inspections would be a big problem. It would probably never pass in Cali, MA, NC, or any of the other states with emission inspections.

But if Toyota ever brought a diesel truck to the US- hell ya I'd buy one. All I know is that my Mother in Law has a VW Jetta Wagon with a little 1.9 liter 4 banger diesel and that thing will go up hills like you would not believe. The torque in these engines is insane.

... and I have to agree with most others here. That has got to be about the UGLIEST truck I've seen. I hope to God that Toyota isn't thinking of using any of that styling on any upcoming future US Tacos because if they do, I think I would seriously have to consider another brand.

That thing gives me a chubby!!! I love the front end of that. The grille and bumper is just the toughest thing I have ever seen!!! (Not the diesel one, I mean Simonreale's).

Only problem with it is the steering wheel is on the wrong side.

Toyota was supposed to put out a Diesel Tundra this year but losses due to the global economy caused them to scrap the truck. I would love to have one but I dont have a big use for a diesel.

So long as I have a Toyota made engine, it could run on fairy farts and I'd be happy with it.

I saw one in San Diego recently but with Mexico 10 miles away its not a fair assumption.
