I have an 09 Access cab, SR5, 4x4 with the towing package. It is not a TRD. I also have the 3 leaf spring package. Yellow sticker on the door says 12lb. reduced cary capacity. Truck was made in Cal.

I am going in for an oil change this coming weekend and am planning to ask about the upgraded package. I hauled some feed out to my deer lease this past weekend and drug one of the mud flaps off. Truck handled like crap with a load. I think I only had around 800 lbs in the truck!

I am also planning to call Toyota today to see if they can help get mine fixed. I bought a truck, not a car!

Update: Wrote an email this morning to Toyota describing the problem I was having.

Then I called them. I told them the whole story again. They put me on hold then came back and said there was a TSB for 06-08 to fix the problem and said they would put it on mine for free. They cautioned me that the ride after the TSB would be rougher. I never even mentioned the TSB while I was on the phone with the lady.

They gave me a case number and said the dealership would call me in a few days to set up a time to come in and have the work done!!!!

I won't celebrate until the TSB is done, but it looks like I am about 1/2 way there.

I had the leaf TSB performed on my truck and it really doesn't help out that much with the payload. A load of firewood level with the top of the bed still bottoms out on the bump stops. The leaf packs should be 5 leafs or thicker spring steel in my opinion.

Got the TSB...it helped with payload to the extent you would expect one extra leaf to help...maybe a couple hundred pounds. I plan on puttin in another AAL with a lift in the not-too-distant future.

mine has the sticket, but it says reduced by 16-0lbs. What is the -0? Should I assume it has been reduced by 16lbs. Built in Mexico and has 3 leaf with the same product codes of the 08 TSB. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

My 09 was built in California and it has the sticker as well, however, mine says 12lbs less than the maximum payload. What is TSB??

Mine has sticker that says 2kg's or 4lb reduction, looks like it was wrote with a 'Sharpie"

After 1500 miles I can't say it has any issues, but I have not towed or hauled anything with much weight.

Thats funny! I don't understand the point of the sticker or what the point of it is. Why is it an after-thought (put on by hand and not machine - evident by it's scattered and uneven location). Why do each one of them list a different decreased weight? So it is printed for EACH truck that comes off the line?

    4lbs? whats the point!

Got my 09 tsb done. Did it all through e-mail and then recieved a call to schedule install. I never once mentioned the TSB or knowledge of it. Way better ride even without a load. I recommend the tsb or aal on your own. They didnt remove my 290lb sticker. While truck was in shop, I looked under a 2010 and it had 3 leafs. FYI

From what I understand the sticker has to do with federal compliance with the load rating of the vehicle as it relates to the wheels and tires provided by the manufacturer. It's not related to the spring pack.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING 27,080 MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 PASSENGER CARS BUILT FROM JUNE 2, 2008 TO MAY 4, 2009. THESE VEHICLES WERE NOT EQUIPPED WITH LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY MODIFICATION LABELS WHICH FAILS TO CONFORM WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS." Consequence:
[IMG] INCORRECT LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY MODIFICATION LABELS COULD RESULT IN THE VEHICLE BEING OVERLOADED, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. Remedy:
[IMG] TOYOTA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND PROVIDE THEM WITH A NEW, ACCURATE LABEL TO BE INSTALLED OVER THE INACCURATE LABEL FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT AUGUST 31, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-888-270-9371.

Another note from my own experience. I picked up a yard of bark today. I have an '09 DBL Cab LB V6 4x4 SR5. The truck handled the load without issue. The rear hardly squatted. Now bark isn't as heavy as a yard of dirt or rock but it seems alot of people were complaining about the ride with a few hundred pounds in the bed.

From reading all of these post, I am pretty sure this sticker has to do with optional equipment and not the spring TSB. Mine says 5lbs. I have no options other than floor mats. My guess is that those mats weight about 5lbs. The folks that have more than 100lbs probably have a hitch and other accessories (larger rims, running boards, skid plates, etc.)

Hmm. But it can't be the TSB thing either. Why would folks have 5lbs and 16lbs stickers? That wouldn't account for anything. But I have to admit, I can't see the chrome bumpers, painted wheel arches and some convenience options can't be 270lbs. The mystery continues ...

I don't know how the weight modification is determined since there is quite the variation across the board. One thing I can possibly think of is that each production vehicle is weighed and the GVWR is determined and then the payload capacity is figured. The only reason I can see for this to occur is if Toyota pissed off the NHTSA and are requiring them to post exact capacities on each vehicle produced.

That's simple. I doubt two vehicles coming off of the assembly line would weigh the exact same weight.

Yup. If they are really weighing the vehicles to determine actual load. But, the folks that are reporting a sticker with -270lbs can't be explained by that, unless they have 200+lbs of equipment installed.
