Nothing to do with tires or springs or getting out of this or that.

Any options added at will reduce load carrying capacity. Therefore if you add running boards , skidplates, etc. , the capacity is reduced by the weight of these added options.

Distributor added stickers now letting you know how much it changed so you don't go over.

That simple. I don't think there is a conspiricy here.

I dunno if a Toyota warranty is really different than a GM warranty, but at least with GM warranties they can't void it unless the aftermarket part is directly responsible for the issue.

I have the sticker, but it only says "reduced by 3 pounds", yes three pounds! It must have something to do with the dealer options added. Mine came only with: AC, rear slider window, front mats.

The sticker is due to Federal Regulations. Any item installed by ANY auto maker or any dealer is an increase in the empty weight of the vehicle. The LAW requires them to install the sticker to inform the purchaser of a reduction in the payload capacity of the vehicle. (The accessories have consumed "XX" pounds of the GVW)

You would be amazed at the regulations about labels that is out there. Even the window stickers, placement, language and so on. Any missing label can be a LARGE fine if an audit is done, some of them are FIVE figures PER VEHICLE.

No worries. BTW, mine says 0,0 but I know that my tube steps, bed cover, extender and so on have consumed part of my total payload along with my big butt. That is up to ME. If the dealer installed options after the build and payload stickers, it is up to THEM to tell you. Simple really.

The other issue is did anyone ever notice if the majority of the trucks with the "290" pound sticker were the 2009 model year? If so, there was a TSB pointing to a recall because about 1400 vehicles (varied not all tacomas) were equipped with door stickers that showed the payload TOO HIGH. The sticker was a correction of that error. The idea that this is a dodge of an issue is really out of touch with the hammer that Federal regulators can bring down on any auto maker.

I edited this post with additional information and a question because I do not feel like reading a book of posts. Not about this topic at least.

When I bought my truck, it had a sticker that reported 275 or 290 lbs. capacity reduction due to the specific options of the vehicle. A few months later, I got a corrected sticker from Toyota. My capacity is actually only 4 lbs. lower.

I think the sticker alone reduced the total load capacity. I went down 2 pounds. I wonder what was added?

Doc, is that the Recall label from 2009? There were some vehicles that went out with incorrect load labels on them. IIRC there were about 1800 vehicles of several styles that were covered by that. Had nothing to do with springs, had everything to do with the wrong label making it onto a specific vehicle. It was not even a Tacoma only thing. The other label I have seen in here is a standard modification label. Which one is this thread about?

My 2010 has that sticker, but it says it was lowered by 3 lbs.

    Dunno what that's all about.
