Hi folks- I have pretty much exhausted myself reading and watching videos on the mystery noises on Tacomas front ends.
I no longer work on cars FYI so that's not an option, but I do have a mechanic who can do some front end work and is willing to look at it.
I haven't done too much offroading in couple of years.

    Symptoms:
    (1) low speeds Up to around 30-35 MPH I hear a sound that sounds like grandpa rattling his 100 coins/change in his big deep pockets. Windows open it sounds like it's coming from Front Driver side wheel area. Windows closed I start to hear it down the center of car. As passenger I still hear it towards left.
    (2) Excessive front end noise when driving - I do have offroad tires that need replacing-irregular wearing. They are noisy but it's gotten worse.
    (3) Turning Noise: I most often hear this clinking/ratcheting noise (like CV boot busted on my old smaller cars) when I either turn out of my driveway (slight incline down) or back into my driveway from a turn. This is not the same noise I hear when driving FYI.

Been to several mechanics - no luck. Took it to Toyota to have my recalls done and asked them to look at it - 1st they said they didn't hear anything, had supervisor get in and drive it and he heard noise #1. They say I need Right and Left Bearings at $1500.

I have read in many forums that the grease evaporates on these truck bearings over time. I'm in So Cal - dry desert conditions.

I really don't know a lot about front ends on these trucks and how hard or if fabrication is required to do the job...Or if this is actually the problem. I had alignment done and that didn't help of course. I need new tires, but don't want to destroy new tires until I get this front end noise figured out. For now I'm not driving too far or fast.
Any ideas, suggestions, pricing, is it ok to have this done by 3rd party?

I'm going to buy a pop up camper shell for my truck (more questions) and want to get everything done now esp with suspension.

    Thanks so much.

Did you ever figure out and/or resolve the problem? I have recently noticed that same type of sound (#1) on my Tacoma (05' TRD Sport). The sound seems to be coming from the front Driver area. At least that's where it sounds like its coming from when driving with the window down and trying to identify what it could be and where the noise could be coming from.

I have looked underneath the truck a few times and haven't seen anything noticeable that would stand out as the possible culprit. Was hoping to find someone here on tacomaworld who may have had this same issue so I can get a general idea of a possible starting point as far as trying to figure out what could be the cause of that sound, and possible solutions to fixing it.

Any help and/or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:thumbsup:
