2009 Sr5 double cab MT??

    So I spawned an offspring last year and need to go from my 06 reg cab to a double cab. Already miss it! Love that lil truck... Anyway, I found this 09 double cab MT 4x4. (MT is an absolute must!) talked dude down to $18000.
    But I’ve herd bad things about the 2nd gen 6spds. Any one shed some light on this? Did they get it worked out by 09? Would I be better off doubling down in a gen 3? Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks guys!

    I had a 2005 6-speed and currently have a 2009 6-speed manual.The 2005 had a squeaky clutch pedal and had an issue where it would slip out of 4th gear while driving down the road.The 2009 also had a squeaky clutch pedal and the throw out bearing was replaced under warranty. The LUK bearings are the problem.Replaced with an AISIN bearing.It does not slip out of gar.I was told by the service rep at Toyota that they had made changes in the transmission and it was a known issue. The squeaky clutch pedal was fixed in 2009 by the factory rep after three attempts were made by the dealer.

    It started chirping.. the trucks that came from the factory with the AISIN bearing are fine. Some did some had the faulty LUK bearing.

    Known issues are throw out bearing chirping and clutch pedal squeaking.

    6 speed has higher final drive ratio so it has higher rpm on the highway and thus lower gas mileage.

    Lots of people feel first gear is too tall, I feel it is fine. It's a truck. It helps with towing.

    I get better gas mileage than most of what I read on here. The auto guys seem to get way worse than me. Even guys who aren't on 33s. You can't adjust shift points on an auto. With a man trans you can drive it in sport mode or eco mode as desired.

    This is why I installed the 2wd low range kit from @Up2NoGood

    95K on my manual trans. When the clutch squeaks, a little well-placed lithium grease solves it for a year or three. The TOB issue...some get it and some don't. The bearing doesn't go bad, it's the shaft the bearing rides on IIRC. The shaft wears unevenly and the bearing wobbles, causing the terrible noise.

    You can't get as good mileage as an auto if both trucks are driven the exact same. If you get better mileage than some it's because they floor it more than you do

    They can't be driven the exact same. They are entirely different transmissions.

    Right now he's making small batches due to sourcing supplies and having to make the wiring harnesses himself. He's the one who makes the heated mirror kits we all love so much.

    Basically, it tricks the truck into thinking it's in 4wd, but it remains in 2wd. You use the existing 4x4 switch to activate it. Once activated, you turn the switch to 4 high then into 4 low, just like you normally would. Voila! You're in 2 low!! I've been using mine most of the summer. I shift in and out of 2 low roughly ten times a week for work and play.

    4 high and 4 low are unaffected when you don't activate the new module. I installed a button to activate mine, but the kit doesn't come with a button. You just hold the 4x4 switch between 2 high and 4 high until you get confirmation from your dash lights that it's activated. Then proceed to 4x4 and 4x4 low to get 2 low. Far less complicated than I'm making it sound.

    The longest part of the install is pulling your glove box and putting it back in. The module just plugs into the 4wd ECU.
