So just another update on the ongoing story...Well it rained today in phx and that is not a common event. I noticed this morning on my drive into work that the truck was just ripping it up and running smooth as a whistle. I think the colder/denser air from the rain added a little more power to the system. Was quite a nice treat on this early day drive to work... Man I love that thing!

has anyone thought about switching out the pulleys on the stock trd s/c and making the necessary engine mods to handle the increased boost or is that not really practical or has anyone swapped out cams before? or is that just a money dump too...i don't even know if you can buy after market cams for tacos

Doing the same install on my 09 dbl cab. Adding headers, and a trd exhaust to open it up on both ends.

The headers ordered from TRD were for a 3.4L and not the 4.0l which obviously will not fit. (TRD does not make or supply one for the 4.0) The TRD exhaust was also ordered wrong, for a dbl cab short bed and I needed the long bed version.

The one thing I totally forgot to order was the CAI.

As far back as I can remember, any car runs better in the rain, with the exception of the old British cars. The Lucas ignition always shorted out when it rained causing lots of misfires, that is, if it even started.

I thought I read in the accessory pamphlet for the SC that if the dealer installed the SC, it's warranty was the same as the vehicles powertrain warranty, NOT lifetime of the 1st owner.

It also could not be sold with the sale of the vehicle or financed with the vehicle.

i understood it as "if the dealership installs it then it is 5 years or 60,000 miles whichever comes first.......that's what was expalined to me, when i got mine......if dealer does not install, 12 month 12,000 miles.

I put the TRD exhaust on. As far as the headers go, nothing available from TRD for the 4.0L. Doug Thorley headers are available, they are the long version, and decided not to install them.

Yea I was looking for headers too on my 09 TRD version, but nothing out there. Only stuff from TRD was the 3.4 and the tundra.. What about us Tacoma users!

No it's a relay for the intercooler pump. The TRD supercharger doesnt come with anything to modify the fuel pump. It does however come with 425cc injectors. stock are 295cc

I am wanting to add a TRD supercharger to my baby.. But 5 grand for 70 more HP.. Kinda had to say it is worth it.. I love the look of the TRD over the URD supercharger.. I think I found a smaller pulley and other upgrades to the TRD by URD to get much better results.. Does anyone else know of any kit like this..

$5k is way overpriced. You can pick up brand new kits for around $3k. With some bolt-ons and a tune you can easily gain over 100rwhp over stock. Which is going to be a HUGE gain.

here are some dynos showing performance gains. Don't pay attention to peak numbers, as this was done on a DynoDynamics, which can read up to 18% lower then other kinds.

Most stock XR's will dyno 200-210rwhp, so you can see how much lower this dyno reads as far as peak numbers (approx 10% in this case).

    Stock: 180.5rwhp/229.9rwtq (80*/40% humidity)
Stock with TRD S/C and re-flash: 228.8rwhp/279.8rwtq (93*/44% humidity) - 48rwhp/50rwtq gain (notice conditions were worse then the stock pull)
    TRD S/C, Bolt-ons and Tune (6psi): 297rwhp & 320rwtq - 70wrhp/40rwtq gain

So with some pulley work (LOTS of options) and more boost, you can see how you can easily get that horsepower and torque WAY up there. I recently saw a TRD S/C truck dyno like 380rwhp and over 400rwtq.

I would like to see what a TRD supercharger with methanol injection and TUNING would do. I can't stress the tuning part enough. My 05 STi made 220hp/230ftlbs at the wheels with no tuning. Bought a piggy back and got it tuned without meth and it made 290hp/320ftlbs. Thats a 70hp and 90tq gain with just different fuel maps. I was told by my tuner that he get almost 30hp+30tq more if I would have added meth or alcohol injection.
So I would suggest getting methanol injection, some type of fuel/Engine managment and get a tune. They sell meth kits around $250, don't know what EM is available for tacoma's, and a tune would cost you around $400 including dyno time. You will get the most out of your SC this way and it is well worth it since you have spent the bulk of your $ already on the SC

Thank you so much.. I know what I want.. Well maybe not really or not sure how to get there.. Is there like one place to get al you talked about or do I need to look around and buy things here and there? Sorry I don't know to much about this stuff….:) I know I love the power that the URD makes in stage II and III but it is so ugly… That TRD one looks really great…LOL Again thanks..
