Just changed the oil, even when I drained the oil the dipstick still has oil smeared on it like way up, way past between the two dots. I can’t read the oil.

after draining I put in 5.25 litre in and went for a drive and it was revving high and shifting to higher gears was later than usual.

I’m not too sure what is going on, would anyone be able to give some advice? I recently have it sitting right now, drained all the oil again, but the dipstick is still smeared with oil way past the two dots.

Are you sure you drained the motor oil and not the transmission. Sorry, had to ask because there are numerous threads on here about folks doing that.

    Hey Panao-

    Welcome to TW.

The suggestions about perhaps draining the transmission and then adding oil to crank case have merit. Doing that would explain both the high oil level and the weird shifting.

I’m afraid you are correct, thank you! Now just to get some transmission fluid back in there. And drain the oil… Geeze man thanks.

Thank you for your time, hopefully it’s not too complicated to fill it up again.

You really need to check it the correct way by the temperature. Here is a “guide” that’s given in the FSM as to how much. Again, it’s a guide, it’s not exact. I’d go with a little more that way you have enough the first time. IMG_3677.jpg

Okay, I have never done any transmission work, I don’t have a full line or a pump to get it in there but hopefully with this thread I will be able to execute this job properly. Wish me luck.

You’ll get it done. By the time you get done, you’ll be cussing Toyota for not giving us a dipstick.
A dipstick would make the process so much easier.

Meh, maybe have ruined my transmission. Won’t go forward anymore. All I can do is double check the fluid level.

Dang, I hope not. How much did you add back in?

Did you collect the old fluid in a container so you can see how much you removed?

probably not. Transmissions don’t work right when the fluid level is incorrect. Setting it correct usually fixes it.

I put in 4.25 quarts before the fluid started coming through the overdrain hole. It didn’t seem like I drained anymore than a quart and a half though.

Definitely double check. It’s possible you did damage. I guess it depends on how long you drive after the mistake. Typically, just a pan drain doesn’t lead to failure if caught soon enough.
