I was thinking about that but I really don't use my ipod that much in the car. I had one in my last tacoma and I only used it a few time. I mostly listen to sirus.

Just wanted to post an update. I installed the new stereo with sirius and used the vais tech SFA12M and it worked perfect. Thanks again for the information.

Awesome! Thanks for listing the update and part number, this will serve as a great resource for those wishing to install satellite radio in the new 09!

Did you add in the module for the steering wheel controls too?

Yes, I did that as well. It took a little patience but it really wasn't that bad to install. Definitely worth the trouble.

Sweet, sounds like you got the full set up, glad to know it all worked out. You've paved the way for my new system, even leading to the Kenwood's since Eclipse isn't what it used to be (from some research). Thanks again!

Okay, so I just joined today and have a question about the XM satellite radio antenna. The question is, can I hook it up to my aftermarket navigation? Will the navigation system be able to get a GPS signal from a satellite radio antenna? The connections are exactly the same, I just don't think the antennas have the same frequencies. The aftermarket antenna is black, doesn't match my truck, and will look stupid sitting next to the factory painted XM satellite antenna. If this isn't possible, I'm going to look into hollowing out the factory antenna and using it as a cover for my aftermarket one.

Both satellite radio and GPS function off the same type of signal (L-Band), but I think the satellite antennas are proprietary to receive only Sirius/XM.

I have been wanting to tap into the antenna and use it for GPS as well.
Have you tried it out yet?

I'm very interested in this trying this too. I don't have a GPS yet, so I can't try it myself. Has anyone attempted this yet?

Sorry to say, it's a safe bet that it's not going to work, the antenna is specific to the Sat signal, I doubt it can be adapted for GPS, it's been asked before on other threads and I haven't seen anyone be successful with this. Sorry, my GPS antenna will go in the bottom of the middle of the windshield on my dash. Happy Holidays!

i haven't tried it yet because i've been waiting for my radio harness to come in... i ordered the wrong one... twice before i found out that it is different for the jbl system. i am going to hardwire my nav in instead of buying the ridiculously expensive jbl harness. i should have an answer for you guys real soon.

I just installed a Pioneer Avic Z3 and I was able to wedge my GPS antenna up inside the dash. I get full signal and it works great. Its nice having it there because you cant see it.

Basically, mine came with a pretty stiff rubber "mat" that was sticky on one side. I beleive it has metal in it to help capture the signal. I stuck the mat to the top of the A/C Vent right behind the head unit. The antenna sits right on top of it, wedged between the vent tube and the "ceiling" of the dash. Its been there a few weeks and hasnt budged.

Just an idea if you dont want the antenna sitting on your dash.

Thanks for the information, and Happy Holidays to you too, and to everyone else also!

Sounds great, I'm looking forward to hearing your answer.

    Another good idea, thanks.

I will be getting my 09 Tacoma AccessCab any day now and I too was excited when I saw XM ready on the new 2009 changes specs, but that kinda blows that you have to install the actual receiver! Ford, Dodge, and GM all have Sirrius or XM ready stereos in there Full size trucks with a free 6 month trail subscription ready to go! If the Big Bottom feeder three can do that, Toyota should get on board. It not like these trucks are cheap!!! And no song or artist title on the display is piss poor IMO!

Dumb question, Instead of spending 70 bucks for the SFa12m adapter can't a plug be made using wire from aux antenna that I already have ?

If I remember correctly you are actully plugging in the power source and the antenna into the XM receiver. For my truck, Double Cab, I installed the receiver under the rear seat per the directions that I found online.

I only want to use the outside factory installed antenna. My Sirius radio is an older model Kenwood Here2Anywhere and it is lifetime subscription. I can't see paying 70 bucks for a plug. There must be away to hook up to it if I was to cut off the antenna from a hocky puck style and wire that end to the Tacoma socket in the kick panel. Ya Think ??

    Sorry, Can't help you here.

I installed the stock receiver. I am sure there is a way to find the antenna wire that runs from the antenna to the point of connection and tie that in.

I would look around the web for a wiring diagram.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

I felt the same way about buying that sharkfin wire adapter. 70$ for that cable is a ripoff. I looked around for a connector to connect to the end of the scc1 antenna cable and couldnt find one. But i did find this on the web. So I cut the factory antenna cable at the plug in the kickpanel ,and cut the scc1 antenna cable and spliced them together works great. Heres a link on how to do it. It will work for sirius or xm
