I believe my regulator is what broke in my truck. I called a mobile window guy and he says that's what it is. One day I heard something break and fall into the door then my window went crooked. For a while I could still get the window up and down - manually assisting to keep it straight in the tracks - but now it's toast. The window is in the up position but it will drop about 10 inches if I touch the button.

I'm pretty sure I can replace it myself, I have the door panel and the access panel off already and it looks pretty straight forward, BUT... does anyone have any specific advice for me or know of a good video of the process in a 2nd gen Tacoma? I've searched this site and I've searched Youtube to no avail.

I watched this video for a 4-runner and I'm thinking it's not going to be too far off of that but I'm still wary of pitfalls before I get too far into it.

    Thanks in advance.

FYI in case anyone cares - I opened up my door and it turned out that what broke was the plastic clips that are glued to the bottom of the window. All of the regulator and mechanism was fine. The downside was you can't buy these plastic clips and I didn't have time to have someone mill some new ones for me so I had to buy a new glass that comes with the clips installed ... lame. Anyway the installation of new glass was a breeze.

Now I have a non-tinted drivers window and it's driving me bananas. Rather than pay for tinting I'm thinking of taking the new glass back out, busting it and trying to salvage the clips off the bottom and glue them back to my OEM tinted window.

I would just get the new glass tinted.
On one of my older trucks the glass became un bonded from the clip that holds it to the regulator. Glass would just fall out randomly.
I tried every damn adhesive known to mankind to try to get them to bond back together. RTV, JB Weld, several different 2 part epoxies, 3M window weld. Best I got was about 6 months before it popped out again. Finally got fed up and replaced it with a spare window I had in my parts stash.

Good to know, thank you. My first drug of choice was going to be JB Weld. Do you remember was the epoxy failing to stick to the clip or the glass?

The glass was the problem in my case.
The older trucks do attach a lot differently then the Tacomas (at least the 2nd gens), you may have better luck but for the what, $50 or so it would cost to have one window tinted it doesn't seem like it is worth the aggravation.
