My dad taught me when this stuff happens "out-of-the-blue" to check the most important thing for an engine to run.... air, gas, and spark, and which of the three is failling.....

Sorry to hear about your truck!

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.

You should go through the fuse boxes quick. It could be that simple.

Yep fuel air spark and compression. A little easier to check on a dirtbike tho, Anyway OP did you add any engine mods, oiled air filter, ebay programmers?

Yeah, start with the simple stuff and go from there. Could be a clogged fuel filter or bad gas. Good luck with your truck!

I haven't had this happen on my 09. However, I have a 99 S-10 that does this when the antitheft device decides to be a pain. I can start it and run it for a few seconds then it shuts itself off. Letting it alone for a few hours or pulling the battery cable for 15 minutes clears it up. It always happens if I try to bump start the dime!

What Key are you using? My truck came with a gray key and two black one. The gray is for unlocking and Vallet parking and the other has the chip in it to drive it around. Other than that, follow what others are saying and check full and especially electrical connections.

When it is running, does it run rough or does it seem to idle fine? If everything seems fine, and nothing on your dash is lit up when it is running, it could be something to do with the electrical or alarm like the other guy said. If it runs rough and seems to stall out, it'll lead you to either fuel or air. I'd start with your intake, it's a lot easier to check then your fuel system.

Just went out and tried again and everything seems to be fine now. Before all this happened i was working in the backyard with the windows down and music up loud in the truck for about an hour and that's when it happened after that. The battery was fine but could of i had the key to far ahead were the fuel system was engaged i don't know i hope it don't happen again because i don't want to start not trusting my truck!

My 09 did this same thing last fall. In a fit of rage I called the dealership and freaked out. But within like 30mins it was working fine, and havnt had any trouble with it. Must have been bad gas?

Yeah maybe you had it in the ON position and not the ACC position...i could swear the manual says never to leave it in the ON position for extended periods of time with out the engine running.

I can start and drive my truck with my gray valet key. I wonder if it has the chip in it...

The valet key from what I understand does everything a normal key will do, but will not lock/unlock the passenger side console.

My console doesn't even have a lock. I have been using my Valet key since day 1 just so I wouldn't lose one of my two originals if I misplaced it:eek:
