Old post but I'm gonna try and revive as I am having similar symptoms. Maybe OP can jump in and comment if they're still around.

Had my truck for 5+ years now '13 TRDOR V6 6spd has ~120k on it bought it with 75k. Since day one clutch has always felt very stiff. Driven a bunch of manuals and test drove several Tacomas before purchasing this one and clutch in this thing was way stiff compared to all the others. I assume previous owner replaced clutch with some kind of aftermarket heavy duty job which was why it is so stiff, but I do not know for sure.

Flash forward to this morning, get in to drive to work and clutch pedal immediately felt much softer, more like what an OEM feels like. Additionally it seems to engage closer to floor and the friction zone travel is noticeable shorter, like start of engagement to full engagement feels about 1/2 inch of travel. And like what OP had noticed the last 2 or 3 inches of pedal travel the pedal does not seem to want to come back up smoothly like it normally would but sort of just pops back up to its normal position.

Any ideas? I have driven manuals for 20 some years but have never had to work on a single one before so I'm not sure what might cause something like this.
