Have you had back surgery? I have. Have you driven 55 miles each way in Philly/NJ traffic for 7 years? I have. In other words, people buy what they buy because it suits them.

Seriously, who cares what transmission someone has? Does it make your penis bigger because you drive a manual? Is it a compensation thing?

Well I'm not really talking about the dudes that have a medical reason for not driving a stick. Yeah I think you may be right the automatic is a compensation thing for dudes with little dicks, that's why toyota charges more for an auto, cause they know the little dick folks will go for that. LOL, just kidding, don't mean to offend anybody.

Nope, not offended. That really wasn't directed at you, to be honest. It's just that this debate/argument keeps going on and on and on...you get the idea. There's nothing more or less "manly" about driving either but some folks seem to think there is. Who knows, it's just a personal choice.

Yeah I know what you mean, I love these type of debates cause there are no rights or wrongs, just opinions.

That's fine your intitled to your opinion...........
But just to say it sucks dose't mean shit to me.
If you think it sucks.........then explain "in your opinion" how it sucks?
Frankly, I would like to hear it.
Oh, and I don't see others chiming in saying it sucks..........where are they?

My last car was a manual and the truck i drove before that was a manual. I've been driving manuals for 9 years and fully intended on getting the 6 spd taco, but when i went to test drive it i didnt like it. I dont necessarily think it sucks, but i just didnt like the feel. then i drove the auto and loved it. i had never driven such a smooth shifting responsive auto transmission before. and since the auto is faster and gets better mpg than the manual i went with it. But like i said, that doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the manual. just a matter of personal preference.

Although if Maverick is reading this thread... your manual sucks, my automatic is better!!!

Now from what I understand the better transmission of the two really depends on what you are using the truck for. For me right now it's a truck to haul my scuba gear and the wife and kid. So for me the auto was perfect I can "play" with the wife, or grab a rogue toy without having to change modes and shift. Now I have had quite a few manual trans and the way I really feel about them is that it makes the driving interesting and in control of the driver. However right now I don't want that in my daily driver, maybe when I get my weekend toy.

    UH.........thanks, I think?
Not my intent to get into a pissing match on the foram or any other, but your made the statement it sucked so the way I look at it, isn't it your turn to say why?
Hell, I don't have time to go research why someone says........it suckes.
Ok, enough of me being an ass, lets call it good, and go out for a beer, or coffee in my case.

Ok I see your links, but these don't make your point. Some of the issues aren't even Transmission related. Clutches and throw out bearings aren't transmission issues, its normal wear and tear and just because one or two people have a syncro going out also doesn't mean the transmissions suck.
Could mean they they don't know how to drive a stick, or that the have run the shit out of it. Who knows.
So, if you after all this you still think they suck, then I guess we will have to agree we disagree.........on that point.....LOL
    PS, like your avatar.

There are plenty of folks on TN that have complained about it. I test drove one and hated it but I've owned plenty of sports cars that probably spoiled me but still. The notchiness of it and it just didn't "feel" right to me makes me feel it "sucks". Obviously I thought so because I bought an auto after owning pretty much only manuals most of my life.

    Life goes on.

I have to say it's the most "different" transmission I have owned, it does seem jurky at first, but now I am used to it and love it, you can not become complacent with this tranny. It makes you stay focused as the task at hand, which in turn makes me a better driver on the road. I have pulled and hauled with both, either way you go is a good way, but the 6 speed is MADE for pulling. I found that Toyotas drive better under loads anyways, gear in the beds, pulling a trailer, on a grade, thats when they really shine.

Compared to an 18 spd road ranger 5 forward and one reverse is no big deal. After jumping in different equipment all day my bigest problem is figuring which hand to shift with, oops thats the turn signal, oops tried to raise the nonexistant blade with the gear shift, I wish my truck articulated, did my back up alarm stop working, and the biggest problem after pushing down hills all day, its hard not to drive into stuff when I'm driving home. Ha Ha !!!

Just got word from my stealer, yeah the auto will be discontinued. Dealer said Toyota will only build 6 speed tacomas, said something about wanting to weed out the "posers"
