Torrance, CA - The 2009 Tundra TR Concept is directed to the drag racing segment of automobile enthusiasts. Back in the 60's and early 70's, auto manufacturers responded to the growing desire for high performance automobiles by creating a segment now known as muscle cars. The ideal concept was to pair the lightest platform with the largest motor, thus giving the buyer the best horsepower to weight ratio possible. While many of the packages loudly advertised the car's performance (SuperBee, Boss 302, GTO, Challenger, etc.) some of the most potent combinations had little to no options and no exterior differentiation from the base model cars to create a "sleeper." These cars are best described by a quote from Teddy Roosevelt: "Speak softly, but carry a Big Stick."
The Thunder Pak concept starts with the lightest possible Tundra in the Tundra Grade Regular Cab, paired with the awesome power of the 5.7L iForce V8. The Thunder Pak system is intended to provide customers performance packages at a discount to upgrade the performance of their Tundra. This unassuming truck has been equipped with a compliment of TRD equipment including a supercharger which boosts the performance to 500HP/550TQ. Performance has been further enhanced with a Nitrous Oxide Systems dual tank nitrous oxide system resulting in a dyno-proved 625HP. All aspects of the motor are monitored through a selection of Autometer Gauges.

the black one looks like an ordinary work truck. at least the red one has some type of "street" styling to it

Nice concept! If I was going to choose from one or the other, it would be the black Tundra. The red ride is a little too much flash for me.

I would love to pull up next to a Camaro or Mustang in the old 'work truck' and blow the doors off them.

That black matte as a sleep would be fucking wicked. I would own that in a heartbeat.
Anyone who voted for the red obviously missed the part about being a goddamn sleeper.

New Work Truck Package at 2009 San Diego Auto Show

SAN DIEGO, December 22, 2008 - - Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A, Inc., today announced that a new work truck version of the 2010 Tundra full-size pickup truck will make its U.S. debut at the 2009 San Diego Auto Show.

The Tundra Work Truck Package is aimed at commercial truck buyers in industries such as farming, ranching and construction, who require a tough no-frills truck with exceptional cargo and towing capacity. The new Work Truck Package will be available on Tundra 4x2 and 4x4 Regular and four-door Double Cab models in standard and long bed configurations. It will be available with a V6 and two V8 engines including Tundra’s powerful 381 horsepower 5.7-liter i-Force V8, with a towing capability of up to 10,800 pounds.

Designed to deliver only the features commercial truck buyers need to get the job done, the Tundra Work Truck Package will be offered at a discount. Tundra models equipped with the Work Truck Package are expected to carry a discount that will range from $550 to $655 less than the truck’s standard manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), depending on the model. Final pricing of the Work Truck package will be announced shortly before the vehicle goes on sale in the Spring of 2009.

On the outside, the Tundra Work Truck Package will include black bumpers and grille surround, replacing chrome. Power mirrors are replaced by manual outside rearview mirrors.

Inside, the truck comes with easily washable vinyl bench seats and rubber floors. To appeal to target buyers, several Tundra standard personal-use features have been replaced or removed. Tundra’s standard silver instrument panel and HVAC controls are replaced by basic black and include voltage, oil pressure and warning lamps in place of gauges. Lighting in the ignition key ring and the glove box are removed along with map and door courtesy lamps. The package also excludes cruise control and the remote keyless entry as standard features, although separate Work Truck packages will be offered with these features.

Looks pretty basic. I would not mind that for my business.

SEMA 2008: Toyota Tundra TR Concept Live

Toyota's tribute to the lightweight, high-horsepower American muscle cars of the '60s and '70s is the Tundra TR Concept, an unassuming regular cab rig with a matte black paint job and steel wheels. Underneath, it's a pavement-eating monster.
"What we tried to do here is create the ultimate sleeper," said Warren Victor, Toyota's project manager for its SEMA trucks. "It's all performance. There's no cosmetics to it at all. If you have a look, though, not only does it have a TRD supercharger and a TRD lowering kit, it's got twin nitrous tanks mounted behind the front seats."
The roots-type supercharger boosts the Tundra's 5.7-liter V-8 from 381 horsepower to 504 hp and ups torque from 401 pounds-feet to 550 pounds-feet. The nitrous setup adds another 150 hp with each shot of gas.
"For under 30 grand, you've got a 600 to 650 horsepower vehicle," Victor said. "It's meant to go to Pomona (Raceway), where you can run the crap out of it and see what it can do."
