Truck rides much better, but the alignment must be off just a little cause the steering wheel is ever so slightly cocked to the left.
i will check back in with the dealer to ensure it is aligned properly.

Update to my experience. The dealer (Mark Miller Toyota - Salt Lake City), who formerly told me no go, has my 2009 DC right now and is installing the TSB springs. The difference? I called toyota, filed the complaint about bottoming out, rough ride, and feeling unsafe while driving with a load. They said that Toyota's computer complaint/tracking system is what everything revolves around. They said the dealer would call. Sure enough, they called the next day. Told me to bring it in with a load. Crazy, but I did. I loaded my 500lb ATV and went down. Service manager didnt even look under the truck. He said ok. I told him abou the TSB after he tried to show me other Tacos empty on the lot with saggy springs as intended so that they were a softer ride after complaints from 1994-2005. I told him I understand, but I need to haul and need a truck, not a car. He said ok, I will call Toyota and see what they say. This was last Sat. Truck there tonight for the springs in the AM. They gave me a loaner car while the work gets done as well.

Bottom line - call Toyota first. That's where the rubber hits the road.

Why is Toyota still building and selling 09 Tacomas with springs that need to be replaced before they leave the lot?

My thought is, How many Hundreds of Thousands of Tacoma's are sold. Most of the owners like the way it rides or don't know anything about the TSB and the 3 spring pack is probably cheaper to make and install. The few Thousand that know about the TSB, it's cheaper to change just them. If they changed the spring pack on the new ones to the 4 leaf, more people would know and want the TSB done.

Got me on the actual ##.

As I mentioned, the main reason for the soft 3-leaf packs were thousands of complaints of stiff rides and poor handling of the Tacoma in the years leading up to the 2nd Gen (2005+) models. Most people buying this light midsized truck aren't buying to use as a truck - they are road riders. Most of the guys on this forum are going offroad and using to load the rig. It was better customer service and probably less volume of leaf swaps to put the soft riding leafs in all models and swap to stiff only if the customer complained about the weak springs.

The ride in my 2004 was very stiff. I came from a 2005 Dodge Dakota. The wife and I gave each other that odd look on our way home...to say "are we going to be happy with this".

Needless to say, I got very used to the stiff ride. Then she got a Jeep Grand Cherekee and we did the same thing...is it too stiff. Again, we are used to it now.

The ride in my Tacoma is very similar to my Dakota. It didn't change eough to notice when I got the TSB pack in. It is still very smooth. They should have built the trucks with the softer suspension that is capable of hauling.

The 4-leaf pack is still a very smooth ride. Compared to the 1st gen, it is night and day.

TSB Springs are done. They did not do an alignment. Truck still rides good, but can definitely tell the increased stiffness over the rough stuff. Not bad though, and certainly something I would never have complained about to have led them to putting in soft leafs initially.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
Can we get an '09 tsb sticky? Like the original second gen. tsb sticky but updated to include '09 model years. I know i've seen 2 tsb's specific to the '09's, one had to due with floor mat clips, and I'm having a hard time finding them again. Even if it's not as pretty as the 05-08 list, at least the information would be in one place. We can bitch about them in all our seperate posts, I just think these tsb's are some of the most valuable info on the net for us owners and deserve propper treatment.:)

Well thanks to the help of all fellow TW members and Veccster especially i got approved for the TSB on my 09 4x4 sport.. Here's my story

1- first i called Toyota and started a claim about the tsb and told them which dealer i would be using. They asked me a few basic questions to start a claim and that was it.

2- Not an hour after i got off the phone with Toyota, a service manger from the dealership i had mentioned called me asking what the problem was and how the truck was handling. I just told him that i travel with up to 1000lbs in my truck on the interstate and it didn't handle well and that i wanted to get the TSB taken care of. The manager asked me to set up an appointment with the dealer for them to inspect the truck and they would decide from there. I was thinking oh crap it isn't going to happen:confused:

3- Well i go for my appointment and i added about 300# in the back so the dealer could inspect my springs. As soon as i pull in the bay door the technician asked me for all my info and said we are just going to order you the new leaf packs/ u-bolts so that you won't have this problem anymore. :D
I also had to get my stereo replaced for the volume knob not working, so they ordered it also. The tech said we will call when the parts get here and sure enough i got a call about two weeks ago saying that everything was here and that we could proceed with the work on my truck.

4- Going next week to get everything swapped out and I'll post back later with good/bad results.

I guess the best info i have through this experience is start with Toyota to get a case started and pick the dealer you are going to use before talking to them. I used Beaman Toyota of Nashville and i spoke very highly of them while on the phone with Toyota which IMO i think helped becasue there are two other dealerships closer to me but i chose to take it where i bought it, this also made them think i was a satisfied customer and they wanted me to stay that way.

Great write-up, Gonzo! Glad you got it approved and taken care of.

It's a comfortable feeling to know that your dealer is responsive and will take care of problems you have. You spend $28K on a new truck and that feeling is important. To spend that kind of money and get shafted makes you feel used.

Be sure to post up opinion of the ride differences.

Got approval from the dealership to have the TSB done on my 09. Service manager told me he was told the 09's would soon be added to the TSB, according to his district manager.

He's gotta call when the parts come in. Pics when its done.

Hey guys..... is there a tsb out for the radios on the 09's? I noticed a lot of us are having volume control issues with them.

Also, does the tsb for the leafs include 4x2's, non prerunner also?

i'm going to try and get the real aal tsb done on my 2009 4x4. I tried calling the 800 number for toyota, and chose option #5 which was tell us your experience or something like that, and the guy that came on the phone pretty much told me to bring it to the dealer instead of calling toyota. I persisted with him and he took my info and what i was experiencing and then he was going to leave it at that, but I asked for a case # and he generated one. He didnt say anything about the dealer calling me or anything like that though
