I got mine done back in October. My service manager gave me no problems after I showed him that the part numbers matched in the TSB. I didn't even have to load my bed, he just took my word for it that it bottomed out. It seems to be just the luck of the draw to find a good dealer and service manager that will do this for the 09's since they are not technically covered. So, either use the chain of command in your dealer if they say no and talk to all of the managers right up to the General Manager. Otherwise, you can try to call Toyota Corporate, or if there is another dealer within driving distance, then you can try them.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
Are you guys just changing the springs because you can? Have you had problems with the springs you had? I'm not sure what springs I have in my '09, I'm definitely going to check, but I tow a boat with mine. I'm not sure what exactly the tongue weight is but I know the whole thing loaded with gear and fuled up is about 1,500 lbs on something like an 18' single axle trailer. I made it a point to look over and over again over a few trips this summer and parked on level ground I can't notice any sag at all. The head lights point right where they always do. I load it up with a days worth of gear and food and all sorts of crap for surf fishing tourneys and drives thru crazy ass ruts and wind drifts in the sand with probably 200lbs in the bed and 4 people in the cab sometimes. Just the stinking radio turning off here and there. Maybe I got lucky and got different springs? Or am I going to start sagging in time? Probably just need to check the springs for starters.

with 3 70lb bags of sand, i noticed a pretty crummy ride. i never experienced bottoming out but the mechanic in me couldn't live with the fact better springs were available (and free) if i didn't have em. you won't be disappointed, its much improved loaded and not with the new tsb springs

I agree completely. If there are better springs available for free I'm all over it, and I'm far from a mechanic. It makes sense to want the best availabe and probably foolish to turn it down if it were free. I was curious as to just how bad the original springs really were from what people had expierenced. How many guys noticed a real problem THEN had the TSB compared to how many had it done beacuse it makes sense or precautionary reasons.

All blue shocks? Or yellow shocks with blue shock covers? Yellow/Blue are bilsteins... They also come in silver shocks and black covers.

I cut some wires here. Added some wires there.
I sent Toyota an email simply asking about the TSB and the suspension on '09 and this is the short and skinny of what I got:

"Your vehicle is not covered under that TSB as the 2009 model year 4x4 Tacoma and PreRunner had the updated spring assemblies and front and rear shocks installed at the factory."

It seems as some people have had this TSB on an '09 already, so what gives? It would explain why I couldn't see any problem with my boat hitched up, but what about other people's?

When i got mine done they mentioned something along those lines but they said they had already ordered the parts for it so they were just going to do it anyways. i guess i just got lucky and had a really nice service rep.

    Fellas,

I'm assuming the spring TSB, after browsing through it, covers Pre-Runners and 4x4's and not base 4x2's. Is this accurate?

My Taco is a 09 but the born on date is late October, many 09's were built with 08 suspension parts.
The best thing to do is check your leaf spring part #'s against the TSB then take that down to the dealer.
It is curious how some dealers don't blink and eye at getting this work done and others really make it difficult.
