2010 2.7L Oil Pressure "sender" switch replacement info or how to?

I have a 2010 Access Cab 2.7L with 200K
So I noticed the oil leaking under my truck. I thought I had a messy (self) oil change but now I noticed the oil pressure switch sender whatever you call it is leaking. This seems to be a fairly simple DIY.
I have a 2010 4 Cyl. Does anyone have a how to anywhere? I can't seem to find anything except for after market installs of actual read back pressure sensors.
Looking for part #, Torque and socket type...
Also if it requires a special toyota tool or if it's doable on my own.
It's really making a mess in the engine..

 

Do not torque it, it is pipe thread and should be installed with a small ratchet by hand.

It's just a deep 24mm socket, you don't need to purchase an oil pressure switch socket.

So you disconnect, unbolt the OPS and clean with brake cleaner.

I put a small amount of thread tape on the new OPS and insert.

Tighten until snug, basically the same effort you use to put a gas cap on.

The problem with torqueing pipe thread is has varying resistance and if done wrong and installed too far you can break it.

 

Only conflict in this is the potential for special "oil safe" thread tape, or use loctite blue...tiny bit on the first 2 threads...

If you don’t feel comfortable using thread tape, they make a thread sealer.
You can buy it at most automotive parts stores.
It’s kind of expensive, but works well enough.

Bishop is spot on with his advice.
These are “by feel” when tightening.

 

Toyota recommends Loctite 271. I'm a fan of using something like Gasoila on those types of components. Teflon is a no no, if a piece becomes dislodged it can easily clog an oil passage. Torque is 11 ft-lbs.

I guess the tapered threads don’t “hold” as well as standard?

The last one I replaced was on a Ram 1500 w/5.7
I was afraid of stripping or snapping it off.
There wasn’t much to the threaded inlet.

835300E010 is it, I wouldn't replace it as long as it's working. Just remove, clean the thread and reseal.

 

I would not be using 271 but that's just me. I've used Gasoila on my HPOP fittings on my ford 7.3 and they haven't leaked for several years now; that engine sees alot more vibration than a 4 banger

So I have no oil light on.
I have an oil leak FROM the switch somewhere..
Is it your belief that it can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled and might be ok?
If it were cracked and leaking would I have an oil light?
I'll buy one at autozone so when I have it off if it's bad I can swap

 

The switch drops out at <4psi. Even with a crack or a leak it would not go that low I don't think. Not sure about the 4cyl but the V6 it threads into the oil filter gasket assembly so it's easy to see at the top of the engine. What you suggested is a good idea, have a spare on hand. More than likely, the sealant on the OE threads just degraded and broke down over time and is causing the leak.

 

Typically OPS's leak from the plastic housing, this is confirmed by the connector having oil inside of it.

You don't need thread sealant, but I've always used it, just basic white stuff.

 

Wow is it a pain in the ass to access on the 4 Cyl without a lift...

 

it looks like a crappy spot from the pics in the FSM. Good luck! Maybe get a wobble socket or swivel adapter to remove it once you get it unplugged.

 

Permatex makes a PTFE thread sealer (white) in a little jar with a brush. Basically a liquid version of teflon tape.

The sender can/will leak through the housing. A new one shouldn't be too expensive

 

I keep a jar of that in the shop too, I use it alot for sealing air fittings and such. Haven't used it on an oil system to confirm if it's compatible but the vendor description says it's compatible with oil

Yup..I work at a lab...we've been testing for that for 3 years. We were one of the first labs to successfully get up and running on testing...IT'S IN EVERYTHING...We can't even have anti-glare coating on safety glasses in the teflon testing area because THAT contaminates it...There is not a living thing on earth that doesn't have teflon in it's bloodstream...
