Can Teflon tape be used on oil fittings?
Due to its chemical inertness, PTFE tape is resistant to both petrol and oil. Therefore, it is often used in automotive applications to seal and lubricate fuel line joints. ... This means that it is broadly suitable for use in environments where it may encounter oil, petrol, diesel and other fuels.

I think the concern here is that a piece might tear off and get into the system?

Well that isn't what you asked in this quoted post below.

All Teflon Tape is safe for oil and gasoline.

There is very little danger of a piece coming off and getting stuck somewhere it shouldn't be if done correctly.

Thats why the goop is good. You just paint a little dab on the threads instead of futzing around with pieces of actual tape

Maybe they improved on the design?

So you blame Toyota that the aftermarket part you bought that is made by another company is a different size hex than the OEM Toyota Part.

    o_O

    I am confused.

At least you did have to buy the special socket for the OPS.
I guess we can Thank Toyota for that at least?

No...I was just confused as to why they would use different sockets...I bought the 24mm to take it off...and the new one needs a 22mm...

I guess it's more of a thanks carquest...I bet it's obviously cheaper to make the nut head size smaller..

Likely because the new one isn’t OEM.

alright...swap done...It was a contortionists effort in the driveway with jack stands...and my arms are covered in scratches...
Old vs New...See if you can figure out which is which
    [IMG]
Install location for future reference readers...Basically straight in from the top of the right front tire in front of the oil filter.
I was confused at first because I didn't realize..
    1. It threads straight into a hole, no other guiding "parts"
    2. It threads in at like a downward angle...It took a while to get the threads to catch when hand tightening VERY carefully to start...I used 2 drops of blue loctite
    3. Letting it sit/cure for probably overnight. I packed an absorbent drop pad up under there to check after I start it up...
    4. Disconnecting it was odd to figure out until I hit it with some brake cleaner spray. That got the grit out of the push tab and then it came right off..
    5. Almost zero oil leakage...when I removed the old one...Yes my dipstick is in the good range
Check out that New England rust...

Thanks for taking the time to write out step by step instructions, helped me do this job in ten minutes flat :)
Much easier to access if you turn the steering wheel all the way to the right, squeeze yourself right into the wheel well.
